NOTHING OF SUBSTANCE TO REPORT about the closed-door meeting at KTVU --word is both Heather Holmes and Julie Haener were essentially told by the HR Countess to "cool it" --which drew sarcastic laughter from the protagonists --HERE'S A WILD HUNCH: I'm betting a tuna sandwich Holmes is looking to get out of KTVU and possibly head to either KPIX (if they bite) or, believe it or not, Sacramento, yes hot, smoldering Sacto but she really wants out of the Foxies because it's a pain to be a perpetual second or third fiddle.

Alyana Gomez
*Meanwhile, in the middle of all the hullabaloo  of which she had zero to do with is Alyana Gomez, who anchors Friday night and is a often-used fill in --KTVU is keen on eventually using her in some primetime slot which probably further pisses of Holmes because she can't fathom her loyalty has gone unanswered --maybe she should go buy another cocktail skirt from Ross and sip a highball around the corner at Kincaid's.

*HERE'S SOMETHING THANT QUITE ANNOYS ME: The complete lack of classy dressing from most of the women anchors here. They look so tarnished, so basic, so unprofessional. Do they ever look in the mirror before they hit the desk? I'm not saying they have to dress like they're going to the ball but how about a nice blouse and dress? Something simple, something that looks as if you care and not some crap from the Nordstrom Rack. It's frankly unbelievable how AWFUL these women look. Like they don't care and it comes through on the screen and it looks appalling and downright disgusting.

Image result for SF Women TV anchors*OF the many problems at KPIX (and there's considerable) is the lack of chemistry between most of the anchors. They have NONE. They consistently BITCH and MOAN to the point of perpetual irregularity --(no, not that kind, but close, symbolically) Ken Bastida continues to look lost and ready to call it quits; Liz Cook really tries to hard to appear sincere and caring but comes off as a wet piece of gouda cheese. Paul Deanno lately looks like he's auditioning to go back to Seattle. Maybe Deanno is still steaming because they low-balled him to do weather and news. And sports anchor, Dennis O'Donnell? Holy cow, what a complete disaster. DOD should stop having cocktails at the Old Ship with women who hate the fact he's a married man.

*KRON off the air !! Oh my God, I can't sleep!

*Yeah, right, name me anybody other than the four schmendricks in Berkeley that have TV antennas.

*KRON is so irrelevant, so distant, so clueless, who gives a damn. They lost focus years ago even before the Young/NBC debacle. Nobody really cares anymore about watching this travesty that has all the charm and sincerity of a Lodi Arby's. Really, KRON has no basis to be on the air with their amateur sound, look, appearance --an UTTER, ABYSMAL CATASTROPHE of EPIC PROPORTIONS. Just simply go Away.

*YOU WANT CLASS, BEAUTY, DIGNITY, and ONE HELLUVA REPORTER? Try CBS' gorgeous and smart, Jericka Duncan. She's a very dedicated woman with terrific delivery, star presence and a tenacious reporter acumen. I love watching her work and predict Ms. Duncan is headed for the big, BIG time sooner rather than later.

Image result for KQED SF*Somebody called and said, "Hey Rich, I'll bet you the management at KQED probably doesn't even know who 'Gary Radnich is!" Which I then hesitated and laughed because I don't doubt it. That's no knock on Radnich quite the contrary because in my column on Tuesday saying he'd make for a great local interview show I naively assumed this would be a great chance for KQED (and Radnich too for that matter) to produce, create a program that would no doubt deliver instant buzz and move-the-needle material for a local outlet that DESPERATELY needs a jolt but yeah, KQED is clueless, the local PBS version of KRON with more money and overpaid managers and general doo-doo. What an ABOMINATION.

*I WAS LISTENING TO KGO RADIO THIS MORNING and some overly giggly, obnoxious woman with a cackle slightly more annoying than Jan Brady, was talking about, well, nothing, because I couldn't stand her and quickly turned the channel. Never thought I would miss Armstrong and Getty.

*The most basic rule in radio; it's been around for years in fact is that THREE voices does not make for a good, certainly not technically because three voices doesn't translate well over the air no matter if the show is interesting --apparently, the doofus KNBR PD, Jerry Crowe didn't get the memo.

*SEX Appeal need not only be physical beauty and admiration. That's a given. Your presence and disposition is just as important. There's a significant buzz factor involved when the object of your gaze and feel is someone who brings pleasure to you not just on the screen but off too. Ladies and Gentlemen I bring you the splendor of KTVU anchor/reporter, Cristina Rendon.

JUST SIMPLY --OH.MY.GOD.

*Over at the station on the Embarcadero not named KRON with Mickey Mouse and Circle7 branding, they continue to talk about the producer guy who continues to act "weirdly" behind the camera when a reporter is doing a live shot from the newsroom. It's particularly disturbing because the guy not only looks bizarre but he shakes his head and looks like some nut case from the Tenderloin --the suits at KGO are aware and are hellbent in telling the guy to knock it off but he's way up there on the seniority list so everyone is confused.

My suggestion: everyone take a deep breath and sing Happy Birthday to Trixie. Happy 45th!

  1. so you want women anchors to be "classy" and wear a dress and a blouse? That would be pretty wacky, exactly..How come the men all dress exactly the same, like robots? Does that annoy you too?

    1. Remember a few years ago there was the story about the Australian news anchor that wore the same exact suit and tie every day for a year and no one noticed. He was trying to prove the point that women are treated very unfairly in the business. Especially when it comes to their clothes. If a women wears the same thing twice she is called out for it. And, they don't get paid extra to buy all that clothes

  2. In recent years, O'Donnell has had periodic problems with his speech. At times, he sounds like he has a neurological problem. He does seem to be taking his actual sports reporting more seriously, i.e. doing more "homework," legwork, and utilizing today's vast pool of resources. The result of that increased diligence is better information.

  4. Actually, I have a digital antenna. I also have DirectTV Now (Streamed over the Internet ala uVerse... I still use the antenna because OTA signals are uncompressed crystal clear UP TO 1080i (or 720p- basically the same thing) AND if available- 5.1 Dolby Digital again uncompressed. Cable (Xfinity ahem) has a notoriously compressed signal. Switch between your cable (or satellite which is better than cable ) and your antenna... you'll see and hear the difference.

TLDR-- basically for football and top tier action network shows, the antenna gives a better signal. So count me as on of those schmendricks in Berkeley (actually Richmond! :) )

    1. I had a dish and I had cable but when I went to rabbit ears I couldn't believe it'd be the best quality, but it was.

Of course I don't waste my time with televised news....

    2. Count another one here who prefers the far superior quality of HDTV antenna reception over cable. The free OTA broadcast signal also arrives a couple seconds earlier.

    3. ...or Oakland. Absolutely, on the OTA quality, when I deign to watch at all. The schmendricks, or schmucks, are anyone who actually pays for TV. They are either pods or lemmings, buying into the corporate subscription model (and product). Hell, I even dropped Netflix - I can wait for the library to get the DVD (yes, actual physical media, how archaic). An antenna is now an act of defiance and freedom.

  5. Anon @3:45.
I too use only an OTA antenna mounted on my window. I refuse to pay for cable or other providers. My set is a high end Samsung flat panel running 720p / 1080i. It also streams 4k Netflix programs over my 100+ MB internet connection. I am happy with what I have.

    1. "My set"... You're dating yourself with a term like that Jim. I remember growing up we had a Zenith tv with twist knobs from the 60's. It wasn't a furniture TV...something crude on a pos cart. My uncle came to town and mocked my dad for keeping such a piece of shit around for so long. My dad, who was a depression era kid, relented and got something nice.

    2. Yup, so old I recall being able to buy gas and complain about paying nearly $5 to fill the tank.

  6. Crazy how these female anchors resemble trash bags. You would think looking good, or at the very least decent, would be a priority...Ama Daetz and Kristen Sze's granny outfits make me chuckle they are so bad.

  7. Alyana Gomez is a very attractive woman, but has occasional trouble with grammar and her choice of idioms. Cristina Rendon? One of the best kept secrets in bay area television. A looker and bright.

  9. It's a shame KGO dumped the Best of A & G this week because they were highlighting content from their One More Thing podcast which I had never listened to so it was all new to me. Angie "Cairo" sucks. Streaming the Sacto mothership KSTE instead.

  10. I just don't see how someone as "wordy" as Rod Brooks is going to fit in with Krueger and Tolbert. They could do a good show without him.

    1. Every time Bob used to be out (and this past week without Bob), Rod brings in Marcus Thompson to be his partner. He enjoys his "pot-na" in blackness. The show definitely becomes a lesson in ebonics.

  11. Bastida is ok. I remember, sometime last year, then-new hire Mary Lee was presenting a tech story (!) about some new drone-with-camera that could follow you anywhere, no matter how you tried to evade it. She thought it was cool. When she finished, Bastida, and also Cook, immediately jumped on it, how “creepy” it was, and intrusive. All Mary could say in response was how great the video quality was. The anchors weren’t having it, but Bastida could see poor Mary was at a loss, and said “good story, though,” and they moved on. He’s a cool and familiar news voice, neither Disney nor Fox nor Raj, and I don’t need a best friend or voice of god for an anchor. Meantime, Mary Lee was shifted to weather, much better suited (well, except for that time she pronounced Minot ND as “Mee-NO”).

Lots of people, Rich. You're very out of the loop. First of all, why pay for basic cable, which is just the same signal you can get with an antenna, only compressed for poorer picture and sound? And then cable goes out. A lot. I can think of a lot of better things to do with my $80 a month. The cable picture isn't 1080i.

I know so many people who think they have great-looking "high definition" TVs and then they show me their picture and it's an old-school 480p image that's just stretched onto a bigger screen. That's not what high definition is. But they don't know it. They say they can't see the difference between DVDs and Blurays either. But they think they have great set-ups.

  13. Three hosts is an utter mistake.
But what would you expect from a numbskull outfit like KNBR ?
The reason Tom Tolbert is not happy with this arrangement, is because it is a train wreck waiting to happen.
Tolbert and Kreuger, and leave it at that.

  17. 3 guys=one show at KNBR tells me they going after the Warrior broadcasts with Tolbert on color. He is gone the 2 man team of Krueger and Brooks would cover.
Brooks is a good interviewer. Marques Thompson brings a lot of interesting takes on the air so the writer of the Ebonics bullshit should leave that for the Alex Jones and Limbaughs of the world

  20. Who actually has ATT Universe or Direct TV?? The same people who use landlines? They have a horrible lineup unless you want to watch MAVTV (only one who watch it). Now they are fighting with CBS. I would rather watch Xfinity or WAVE to see KRON and CBS instead of the crap on ATT/Direct. They are upset over bleeding customers faster then competitors over their worthless customer service and channel lineup
