Face The Nation Rocks My Sunday Morning; Brennan A-Rate Host; Now, PIX Off Air; Chippy Tom Tolbert; Rothmann Space Show on KGO Delivers The Goods; Sunday 415 Media Brunch

Related imageMY GO-TO SUNDAY SHOW: CBS' sophisticated, sultry, spirited interviewer and host of 'Face the Nation': Margaret Brennan.

She lights up the screen and asks tenacious questions, like this morning, for example, with the utterly obnoxious GOP congresswoman, Liz Chaney.

*Yes, by the way, I LISTENED to the radio version of Face The Nation as CBS (including local O and O, KPIX) is now, in addition to KRON, the latest to have a dispute with AT&T and is off the cable air. Damn the public as all this really shows is the FCC is worthless and we the public suffer. On the other hand, ,no KPIX News and Foodie Chap, a plus for Bay Area viewers.

*Tom Tolbert don't get so chippy with Yours Truly it wasn't me that put the two JV players on your PM Drive show on KNBR.

*Sports-Talk radio hosts is the last refuge for the squandered intellect.

*I finally listened to John Rothman's NASA 50th Anniv. Man on Moon program and yes, it was riveting radio which is what I've said about Rothmann's overall repertoire for over 10 years. That it took KGO years and years to finally put him on the air five nights a week is still mind-boggling.

*Those 1-800-JUNK ads on radio are finally beginning to irritate the hell out of me.

*El Schmucko De Grande: the Chronicle's insufferable Giants' beat reporter, Henry Schulman, who talks as if he's a bigger God then the real God. Hank, go light up and get back to us when you press the chill button.

*That new Chron food critic? Soleil Ho. What a bag of popcorn she is. Yikes!

*BREAKING NEWS: KTVU weekend anchor, Claudine Wong, had no cold this weekend.

*No Foodie Chap, No Brian Hackney, No Ken Wayne, Golly Miss Molly the world is coming to an end!

*95.7 FM 'The Game' sending secret messages to KNBR PD, Jeremiah Crowe, "OUR retreads are better then yours!"

*Greg Papa and John Lund: Ladies and Gents, we bring you the greatest in pubic hair radio.

*BREAKING NEWS: A secret mission you never heard about was just reported by me, exclusively: KCBS sent Jan Wahl to the moon where after landing on the surface, Wahl found an oval café and devoured 4 lunar hotdogs.

*If Mickey Luckoff were 10 years younger and didn't have a fallout with Jack Swanson, I'd bet you a diet coke that he and Swanson could buy KGO (with a few silent partners) and restore its old format with weekend programming too; yeah, my opinion, you think nought? Sue me.

*Current KGO Radio suits: here's a tip: get Melanie Morgan on the air --somewhere, even an hour would do. As I always say, I don't have to agree with anyone on politics but I will listen if the host is interesting.

  1. Good....keep KPIX & KRON... OFF pay tv.
    Why pay for shit programming?

Can you imagine paying for KGO radio on pay radio providers such as Sirius ?
    Paying for Armstrong & Gitty
    Paying for cars- for kids

Stop crying and watch FREE tv with an antenna.
    Problem solved.

    1. Or, go to the live stteam on your computer. Google KPIX Live and make sure the link says

  2. KPIX is free... off-the-air.
    Enter or scan UHF
    Channel 29

  3. Sorry, but Margret Brennan, Face The Nation, is obnoxious. She never allows a "Guest" to answer the question without interrupting too early.

    2. She does it to all guests, no matter their political persuasion.

  4. Pick up an HDTV over the air antenna, more dependable and far better quality than cable.. Not to mention, free.

    1. Actually, I've tried two different HDTV antennas and neither one worked. I am up against a mountain that is between me and the signal, I believe. I dropped cable when they wanted to raise my very basic programming by 50%. I didn't think a bunch of shopping channels and foreign language stations warranted that kind of gouging. Although mainly out of desperation I got really hooked on this one Japanese soap opera. I went without the news for a few months until I realized I could get it on the station's website like I had years before. Anything else, I search YouTube.

    2. Yeah, post-digital you either get a spectacular HDTV over the air, or nothing at all (or, on a weak signal, something that looks like a LeRoy Neiman painting). Not like the old days, when even a piece of tin foil could get you a very ghostly but discernible picture on the fringe (Ch 36 when it was KGSC). Today, cheap rabbit ears will do the trick well enough, and, like the old days, you just have to move them around to find the happy medium (it's really the UHF loop that is the most useful part). Best near a window (so I run an extension coax). In this house CBS is still available to ignore.

    3. Two types of OTA antennas, amplified and non-amplified, the former works much better

  5. About that cafe where Jan Wahl ate on the moon, I've heard the food is good, but there's no atmosphere.

  6. So now we have 3 stations off the air in a dispute with AT&T: 4, 5, & 44. I asked you this the other day but didn't get a post. The FCC has "must carry" rules for providers to accommodate local stations. Isn't there a "must provide" rule, too? What good is one without the other!

  7. No one in their right mind is going to miss KRON or KPIX. Both are an embarrassment to the Bay Area. This will also expose more viewers to the embarrassing broadcast at KGO-TV. If KRON & KPIX weren't so hard up for money they wouldn't have demanded that absolutely insane amount of cash from AT & T. We may be seeing the end of them both and if Disney didn't own KGO they would also be on the edge of extinction.

  8. I do wonder if we're going to get to the point when we see cord-cutting in the other direction and content providers start keeping their stuff off of cable and satellite distributors and figure people will just watch via the internet on SmartTVs. The only reason to keep a cable or satellite TV package for the consumer is live and local content.

  9. Brennan is no-miss TV since she took over FTN. She was terrific when she had the white house beat and is getting to show all of her skills now. Why doesn't Rich at least wait 2 weeks before hacking up the new KNBR lineup...I'll at least give it that long. But Tolbert/Krueger/Brooks should be a good show, as long as Brooks is permanently 'on assignment'.

  10. Rich, do you know why Face the Nation is only carried for 30 minutes here instead of the full hour?

    1. It's a station thing --KPIX has the call there even though they're an O and O.

  11. - Brennan interviewed some unfortunate genes this morning. (Is Liz worse than Dad Dick? Both Cheneys share the same conservative views, but when the Hairpiece bashed the Bush Family, he became persona non grata to the ex-VP.)
    - The cable fee disputes are increasing and getting more stupid by the day. That's business? Yikes!
    - I used YouTube to get my Apollo 11 thrills. Nothing like the real thing as reported by the late great Mr. Cronkite.
    - Schulman thinks he's a bigger God than the real God? There is a sub-man(-in-Chief) and his base who actually believe the Commander is bigger than Jesus; this includes fake pastors like Franklin "I'll never be my daddy" Graham. Doesn't matter what misconduct has taken place to these clowns, especially in separating families, legal or illegal; they cancelled their values long ago when they caved in to their delusional "never care for others, only themselves" brains.
    - Bay TV & Radio continues its foot-in-the-mouth ways.

  12. So, who's the villain in this dispute? AT&T/DTV or CBS? Some have said CBS needs the cash because of their pricey deal with the NFL. AT&T seems to be trying to hold the line on costs that will have to be passed on to customers (already fleeing to the Internet), but they're the provider and will likely suffer the most if customers defect. I suppose they could up the ante and drop all CBS channels (network affiliates, Showtime, TMC, sports) to call their bluff. I wouldn't mind seeing that, just to get this over with. (No KPIX or KRON OTA for us now and lots of others in the Bay Area, unfortunately, due to terrain.) Just annoyed with all this corporate blackmail at the expense of viewers still paying for services not received. FCC, BBB, PUC, anyone, hello?

  13. I was watching KPIX noon news, and saw the banner rolling across the bottom saying they were off the air, but I was watching them! It was then I realized that they were NOT IN FACT, off the air, but off of cable. I don't care because I have been using OTA [Over The Air] antenna for years. I get 105 channels, although I admit most of them are worthless to me. Still, the channels I watch are in FULL HD and not toned down, like is the case on cable. So this doesn't bother me at all that they are not seen on cable.

  14. I got the clearstream 2 max antenna at best buy for 60 bucks. Went to home depot, got 10 ft 3/4 inch metal conduit, metal straps and attached it to my fence. I'm in San jose and get a great pic. Did not miss Big Brother.

  15. The Ward fiasco destroyed KGO. At the time, I thought KGO should have addressed the problem. I knew KGO was in big trouble then and now. The base walked and KGO is history. It was bad management all around by the people in charge. The 49ers situation did not help. The fan-base do not like the York family. All together boom, KGO no more.

  16. Absolutely agree - get Melanie Morgan on the air! She's well spoken and has talent that could easily go far beyond the SF market.
