Thursday 415 Media Extravaganza With Just Enough Dirt and Poop To Satisfy Your Urges

Image result for Morning coffee shop in San FranciscoIF THE RUMOR about Ronn Owens taking over for ratings and buzz-challenged Mark Thompson is true then I feel sorry for KGO which is saying a lot. I know Thompson hasn't made any mark here and that his 2-hour show is a snooze fest but dear God, Cumulus, Ronn? Hasn't Ronnnnnn had his day and has entered sunset status? Owens is too busy taking cruises anyway so I hope this is just a joke.

*As the Giants continue to crater so do the ratings; KNBR ratings during Giants' games: DOWN a whopping 26%; on NBC Sports Bay Area, almost 29% and there's proof in the pudding:the  the Giants pre and post-game show is becoming shorter and shorter and the cable pre and post, much the same.
It isn't rocket science to suggest that as the team wanes further and further into the abyss, so does interest. That's a given.

*Meanwhile, across the bay, the A's have begun to win more consistently, but their radio home, KTRB, (the latest) is an absolute wasteland. 860 AM (The Answer) is a right-wing extremist outlet run and owned by Salem Broadcasting and when the A's aren't on the air, it's polluted with MAGA hat people; it's not a good mix when you're a baseball team especially one that can't build its brand around the likes of Hugh Hewitt BS and Mike Gallagher right-wing extremism --the A's should have bought their own radio station and then used it to build up its streams and other content. What a mistake, (again!)

*CHAOS on the set, again! I hear it's lights out pathetic at KGO where the band of amateur-poisoned posers like Reggie Aqui and Natasha Zouves are once again at odds. A, does anyone care? B. Why does KGO management put up with this ridiculous drama?, C. how does the new GM, Tom Cibrowski, get away with such chicanery or was Cibrowski hired to justify all the new furniture Disney bought for his office? Mickey Mouse would have been a better choice to run ABC7; wait a minute!

*At KTVU everyone is on vacation and they're schlepping janitors off the street to fill in. Nobody gives a crap about the station and their core-4 talent at 10 PM are a few years away from retirement/buyout status. Which makes the natives morale worse than a breakfast at Pelican Bay. I mean, KTVU, how sad the mighty has fallen. Makes you want to yearn for the good old days when Leslie Griffith hit Mark Ibanez in the head in the parking lot with her 5-inch stiletto after a Ten O'clock News, oh my!

*But Bill Martin is enjoying home-cooked meals in Lafayette so it's a winning situation.

*Julie Haener: the cutesy persona and blond allure is only a facade --she's so mean these days KTVU had to buy a pit bull to calm her down. Maybe she should have abated the Trump rallies.

*I'd love for Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn to have Dr. Tara Fields on his "Ronn Report" but that would be too good to be true. But it certainly buys more free cruises.

*Damon Bruce: I married a Salesforce woman to finance my remaining career in SF and avoid having to move to Buttonwillow.

*Paulie Mac: should watch Peter Sellers' "Being There" --I mean, fast, dude. It's your homage. More Powlie: Only guy I know who gets wet dreams thinking about his buddy, Bruce Springsteen.

*Phil Matier didn't say it, I will: Gavin Newsom will run for 2020 Presidency.

*Tara loves Ronnn's attention until every other day when their dating is interrupted by Lowenstein's trip to the Union St. manicure/pedicure. You gotta look nice on those cruises.

*Brian Murphy only talks to "Copes" so he can tell his Marin friends that he really relates to Black people.

*Reparations is a big word these days around the halls of Congress. Will former KRON workers ask for compensation too?

*Amber Lee of KTVU --I'm wondering if she and KCBS traffic yenta, Sherry Brown, could have a contest at a local tavern --whoever says, "UH' more times gets to have dinner with Wendy Tokuda.

*Veronica De La Cruz: yeah PIX, that worked out real well.

*Greg Papa is auditioning to become Giants pre and post game host on NBC Bay Area; plus, A's pre and post game host; continue Warriors' pre and post game; new Sharks pre and post game; Raiders pre and post game; who have I left out? Oh yeah, Pop wants to host "Outsiders" too. Greg has bills to pay, you know.

*Get ready, SF' fans: "TOUCHDOOOOOOOOOWN ...Niners!"

*Gary Radnich is getting a little bored around the house, so bored in fact, he's begun asking out the traffic chick on KRON.

*Leah Garchik of the Chronicle in a hat: slightly more attractive than Jan Wahl in a moo-moo.

*New bumper-sticker around town: "Has Larry Beil terrorized your interns today?"

*Speaking of interns, Larry Baer's presence is still intact at KNBR so much so Brain Murphy went out last week and bought a female dog; a bitch pug and named it "Melissa."

*"Hi, I'm John Rothmann on KGO and there's no place I'd rather be then right here with you and not with my wife who runs me around like a ball and chain during rush hour in the financial district!"

*Ben Fong-Torres  MIA which has set the Chronicle back so harsh Peter Hartlaub had to do an extra podcast on the history of toe-nail fungus.

*THIS JUST IN! To finance a new bullpen at Oracle Park, Larry Baer is auctioning off a dinner at Glide with Mike Pechner and 2 retired ball dudes.

*Gasia Mikaelian: new short hair style procured to cater to the sophisticated cool, younger male millennial demo in Downtown San Leandro.

*Pam Cook: a slightly more attractive Tori Campbell without make-up.

*Darya Folsom likes to tell her friends, "you know, without me, KRON would be nothing!" Yeah Darya, KRON without you would be like 24 hours worth of patio furniture ads and solar heating commercials and that's just treasonous !

*Mark Willard on KNBR: "Gees, if I can suck up Larry Kruegar, I'd get another year on my contract!"

*Raj Mathai and Jessica Aguirre item? Never happens because Raj is a family man and Jess only likes guys from Cupertino with backpacks and Google internships.

*Reggie Aqui and San Jose Sharks hockey players: what a winning combo.

*Tim Kawakami and Hank Schulman: Possibly collaborating on new book: "We wanted to block Larry Baer on Twitter but we also like our free hot dogs and parking pass."

*Ray Ratto: If I can eat a few more tacos I might be able to co-host "Outsiders."

*Listening to "The Guru" on 95.7 FM "The Game": I'd rather watch all the 1978 episodes of "Weekend Magazine."

*Greg Papa is auditioning to also become the permanent fill-in for Bill Martin on the 10 O'clock News.

*Chris Townsend: John Fisher's lapdog.

*Greg Papa has approached KGO, ABC7, about becoming the new sports anchor on the 4 PM news.

*Vern Glenn sent an angry e-mail to me about my constant chirping about him (Vern) trying to impersonate Gary Radnich: "Hey Rich, nobody cares!"

*Kenny Wardell and Ronnnnnnnnn: A regular Ten-Speed and Brown Shoe.

  1. Any word about a Giants intern named "Laura"

Word on the street says her voice mails ended up on LarryBaers Phone.

There is a Melissa out there also?

    Surprised. Nope.

    1. Interesting post at 11:17am.
That would explain why Larry Baer got into a scuffle with his wife.

  4. In case anybody at KRON reads this:

Darya Folsom is the reason that my household will NOT watch KRON in the mornings, period, not a chance. She's awful. The end.

  9. Can't believe KGO would give up on Mark Thompson so fast.
I wonder how many backs Ronn Owens will stab to get his old time slot back.

  10. This blog reminds me of the National Enquirer circa the 1980's.

    1. The Enquirer from the 80's? That would require a Cameo Appearance by Bat Boy being photographed (by a Drone) leading the Mexican Caravans into Tijuana.

    2. You had me until drone in the 80's.

  11. LOL. Wow, Rich is on fire today.... Some of these were so funny, yet kind of spot on.

  12. Gavin Newsome is not what this country wants, needs or even deserves as president. How DARE he even entertain such wild ambitions when he just received the Governorship? If you try it Gav, first, get California in better order, as in less homeless tent cities, less Poo-Parks, less Needle-Beaches.

You are not ready yet. Try back after Trump's second term in 2024- maybe. Oh, ans Gavin, stop being so petty, childish, hateful to anyone slightly conservative. We are human beings too. Practice better deportment. That goes for your wife too, by the by!

  14. KGO Made a huge mistake bring back Nastasha Zouves to Mornings. The team of Alexis,Jessica,Mike and Reggie worked. Nastasha did not earn it being out 3 months shy of a year.I know she was out with a head concussion. She should have be place some where else or not hired back at all. Can't stand her!

    1. @ 5:07 There are laws governing how employees who are injured on the job may be treated by their employer. You might want to familiarize yourself with them before deciding who can and cannot work when and where.

  15. Even though I am a fan of Damon Bruce, I have to admit, even Rich's comment about Damon was funny. No offense to Damon, but before he got with his wife, he used to talk so much about how you get paid nothing being in sports media and whenever people who wrote him would ask him how to get into the sports talk media business, Damon would always mention to not get married. At times I wonder if he used that as a tactic to get guys to not take his job or to deter guys from considering getting into sports media, knowing that some guys who might've asked him this were already married or could be seeing someone they plan on marrying in the future.

Ever since Damon got with his wife, he's been able to go on nice trips with her. I think he went to Europe for the first time, with her last year. I think they also went to Mexico. He's been able to buy a house here in SF. Damon really has come a long way from his single days, but you do have to wonder if what Rich said is kind of true. I'm sure his wife makes bank at Salesforce. It looks like Damon is not doing too bad financially himself either, but you might have to wonder if his wife's possible finances have helped out with some of the stuff mentioned earlier.

  16. “ Gasia Mikaelian: new short hair style procured to cater to the sophisticated cool, younger male millennial demo in Downtown San Leandro.“

Hey, I was a young San Leandro guy, grew up there in The Manor, and I do like her sophisticated cool......

The only one who believe Gavin could be president, is Gavin. Boy, his eight years as mayor of SF really were successful......we will see if he will make California more like SF and then, as President, the United States. I prefer to listen to KSFO and 860 AM.....at least those radio programs have people would can argue with logic and reason, and are not just name callers like plebs on CNN and MSNBC.....

BTW, I do indeed remember Ben Vereen and a very young Jeff Goldblum in that 1980 dud Tenspeed & Brown Shoe.

  22. Rich, you'd be a much better person if you listened to the brilliance of the Salem hosts (Herwitt, Gallagher, Elder, Prager, Gorka). Feeling better already, I'll bet! Having helped rescue you from your progressive decline, the problem with KTRB is that it has no local presence to promote the Oakland A's. There is also problem in finding another outlet with the same wide geographic coverage. Your idea on the 610 AM position is in the right direction.

    2. Amen, he is insufferable. Can't believe the replaced Michael Medved with him. Although not a conservative, I often listened to Michael Medved, and liked his show for the most part.

      Delete
  23. Oh god, no spare us, all the Republican sycophants, Hugh Hewitt is a little more independent and talks to liberal. The got rid of Michael Medved who although conservative was more independent. On top of that Hannity, Rush and Mark Levin in the same group, we need more diversity not more of the same drivel.
