KTVU --Fox Reality Check
KTVU FACTOIDS
IN THE NEXT THREE YEARS, several key KTVU anchors will either be told to leave or bought out; among the likely candidates:
Pam Cook
Dave Clark
Steve Paulsen
Bill Martin
Frank Somerville
Mark Ibanez
Julie Haener
THE SKINNY: A KTVU source tells me cheapskate FOX will likely want to do major cost-cutting, especially in high-labor-cost Bay Area and hire younger, cheaper, talent that will work under Fox business model which is tantamount to almost slave labor, at least by news-talent standards.
Both Somerville and Ibanez are one year into three-year contract extensions; by contract end, both will be in their mid-to-late 60's--in TV news speak: good to go. This isn't the gospel, just the hard truth which further explains why TV anchors are leaving the biz to become PR flacks.
I would think that Sommerville and Ibanez could get jobs at other networks in the area, not sure about the rest of them.
ReplyDeleteNot without a steep discount. Everyone's cutting costs.
DeleteRichie: I'm sure you'll be sending a sympathy card to Ms. Cook, who's president of your fan club. Maybe these folks can follow the paths taken by George Reading (Salinas) and Pete Giddings (Reno). And it's funny how corporations have embraced displaced media folks as PR people over the last few years.
ReplyDeleteI’m leaving the bay for the greater Reno area....at least I get me some Pete Giddings again........and a whole lot less traffic and no state income taxes.
DeletePoor Steve Paulsen needs to get some clothes that fit and lose about25 lbs., P. Cook needs a makeover=frumpy and ol' Dave Clark is just plain ignorant...won't miss them at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't worry about them because they can always sell pot or CBD oils.
ReplyDeleteFun Fact:
George Reading was often spotted naked at Ventana and other places around Big Sur in the late 1980's and 1990's.
He surfaced at KMST in the 1980's and bombed
DeleteMaybe KRON's Darla Folsom can make a move to KTVU. She's got the absence of a brain going for her but she's got a high-mileage look that might keep her out.
ReplyDeleteThe Firm being the Firm, no matter how Oaklanders feel about their only major TV station who they increasingly disagree with on all non-local news that may have a direct or indirect bearing on the Bay. No wonder Paulson may want to escape this sudden soap opera building!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Gasia Mikaelian will pickup an extra shift? She's a company gal and always going the extra mile.
ReplyDeleteSteve Paulsen is the only one that actually does weather north of Santa Rosa and Clear lake the only weather report we get!
ReplyDeleteIf they dump him they will dump a lot of their watchers.
Rosemary just stands in the way.
scary look at the unibomber in the front row there
