Radnich Comedy Act on KNBR Sprinkled In Even on McDonald Domestic Violence Allegations

To Gary Radnich everything is just a barrel of laughs no matter what the subject, even domestic violence allegations.

Radnich returned to KNBR from his vacation Monday morning and couldn't help himself with his own style of reacting to the news of Ray McDonald's arrest on Sunday.

The arrest involved 49ers player, McDonald allegedly beating his pregnant fiancé. The facts aren't totally clear now, but what the general public has heard thus far isn't pretty. We're now due for yet another lengthy legal process but right now the 49ers and, namely, McDonald are in the limelight for all the wrong reasons.

Worse yet, KNBR, per usual, shows its amateur light when it comes to matters of serious nature that don't involve the Giants and fanfests. Moreover, Radnich's sprinkling of faux anger over McDonald's alleged behavior rings hollow, just another backdrop to his shameful Don Rickles act. Deplorable.

  1. So physical assault on a woman is "deplorable," but refering to their "symmetry" and objectifying them like a side of beef isn't? Misogyny is misogyny. Make up your mind if you play for Team Neanderthal or not.

  2. Radnich's mean-spirited and sarcastic act has gotten really old and I'm am surprised that he has enough listeners to keep him on the air and justify the ridiculous salary he pulls down. The guy is NOT a sportscaster, but a faux entertainer, and a mediocre one at that.

I will give him his due, because at one time he was reasonably talented. He's far from that now, being held up by Larry Krueger who at least keeps up with the games and knows what the heck is going on.

Radnich will hang on at KNBR and KRON as long as he can however, as he's got three young kids and a wife with champagne tastes. He's just mailing it in these days however, and it still astonishes me that in a region as sophisticated at the Bay Area, that he enjoys any popularity.

I guess that speaks to the mediocre spirit and knowledge of our sports fans here, as most northern California sports fans are casual, no little about what is going on outside of their teams, and the only ones who seem to really want to talk about sports are the nerds who call in the sports talk shows.

    1. Well stated, and Radnich should be moved over and out...his idea of what's worthy of a laugh are not in touch with the Bay Area audience and I have a feeling many people, myself among them, don't/won't tune in anymore...

    3. The show would be horrible without Radnich. He brings flavor and personality. Larry and Kate would just have a call-in show with intermediate discussion. Neither can carry a show. Well-read sports fans are just as knowledgeable as Larry and Kate. Larry does know football, but that's about it. Gary is knowledgeable about media and has covered sports for many years. He's no expert, but he doesn't claim to be. He's a colorful sports commentator. He's knowledgeable of the sports teams he comments on because he has to be.

Sports nerds don't call in to KNBR, the weirdos do. Nerds read articles and post comments on the internet. They don't listen to sports radio hoping to gain insight and knowledge. The casual fan listens to radio.

  6. Comparing a certain morning sports talker to a legend like Don Rickles isn't fair to Rickles.

  7. I heard his bad humor as well this morning. But we should not be surprise anymore.
His act has worn thin on people on many levels.

  8. Seriously this guy needs a beat down. Radish that is. And if anyone comes to his aid, they get a beat down.

  9. I listened to the begin of the show, when the McDonald incident was discussed. Gary made jokes like he always does, but not at the expense of McDonald's wife or abused woman in general. His opinions on the incident seemed sincere and carefully thought out. The show is always light-hearted. Gary's schtick is what gives the show it's unique flavor and distinguishes it from other sports talk shows. I certainly wouldn't enjoy it if it only involved serious discussions about sports.

    1. Agree with 12:39. I listened to a large portion of the show and Radnich agreed with his co-host Krueger that McDonald should be suspended immediately, if simply for PR purposes, and condemned McDonald's actions if what is alleged is true.

    2. Why be an apologist for this asshole. Radish is an angry man!

    3. There's a difference between being an apologist and honesty. I'm not crazy about Radnich but why would anyone want to inaccurately skewer him for the sole sake of doing so?

  10. Did you hear Brooks stumble and bumble today on KNBR this afternoon during the Kevin Lynch segment. What an embarrassment, the bar is so low today. How does this guy stay on the air? He can't put 3 words together without a stammer or studder
