Actually, the dual s...No conundrum at our house.

Actually, the dual scheduling made for an awesome Memorial Day party. Fired up the BBQ, watched Sharks-Penguins live, then DVR'd the Warriors-Thunder game and flipped over to it during intermissions and after the Sharks game was over. It was way more fun and exciting than had it just been one game.

To those of you crapping on hockey because you don't watch it....look, if you don't like it, that's fine, just don't watch. But you should probably know there are people out there who don't like basketball, too. Or some of the other things you like. If one or the other isn't your thing, fine. No need to be a tool about it. I don't come over to your house and tell you that your favorite movie or book sucks. Just accept that different people find enjoyment in different things and get on with it. I do wish more people watched hockey (and in the Bay Area in particular), but that's not going to stop me from enjoying my favorite sports. The excitement level at my house among my friends and family was not impacted in the slightest because some anonymous poster on this site can't name two Sharks players.

As for Rich.....there are a lot of ways in which the NHL powers-that-be are brain dead, but this is not one of them. The NHL released their Stanley Cup Finals schedule a week ago, before the NHL final teams were even set. The schedule takes into account NBC's preferences, arena availability, player rest, and travel. Yes, Stanley Cup Game 1 ended up against NBA West Finals Game 7.....so what? What would you have had the NHL do? Re-work their entire Finals schedule on the off chance that a series the Warriors were losing 3-1 would go 7 games (a series that, as late as Saturday night, the OKC Thunder were about 4 minutes away from finishing off without a 7th game)?

But okay, let's say you get your way...no Stanley Cup Game 1 on Monday evening. Monday day time start? Nobody watches TV in the day time on Memorial Day. Couldn't do it prime time on Sunday....because that might have interfered with a potential (but unecessary) NBA East Finals Game 7. Can't do Saturday because that was GS-OKC Game 6. So the only other time you can start on Tuesday night.....which not only forces NBC to pre-empt its showing of the much higher rated "America's Got Talent," that makes SC Game 2 on Thursday night the same night as NBA Finals Game 1.

The NHL did their best to avoid overlapping with NBA games and their efforts STILL didn't work out. The problem is there are just no favorable time for the NHL to air its games. There are re-runs of network sitcoms that get better ratings than Stanley Cup games. Until that changes, if ever, the NHL can't just sit back and wait for everything else in the televised universe to finish up first (which means pretty much every other show, on every other channel, every single night) before the NHL plays their games in order to accommodate the flighty viewing habits of casual viewers who are so disinterested they can't name any players involved or are even willing to publicly admit to liking hockey. If you want to watch the games, you'll make the effort like those of us who care do. If you don't want to watch, that's fine, but then leave the rest of us who DO care in peace and not tell us when our games should airBriannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-45289526642658879092016-05-31T16:13:35.834-07:002016-05-31T16:13:35.834-07:00They said earlier on the radio that Tim is going t...They said earlier on the radio that Tim is going to his daughter's graduation so I assume it's a 1 time deal.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-32348149264718789722016-05-31T16:11:48.572-07:002016-05-31T16:11:48.572-07:00I watched basketball between my son who was watchi...I watched basketball between my son who was watching some sort of Japanese animee. The last two minutes takes an hour. The three point play is a joke. And it cannot compare to football and baseball where the elements are a huge factor,i.e., rain, wind and sun.
