Eddie was a charmer, but he also knew how to put together a good sports segment every night. Eddie was on the air here in the bay area during a special time, when the Raiders, the Warriors and the A's were all exceptional. It was that 'Rebels in Oakland' period when the three teams combined to win five Titles over a five year stretch. Eddie was right there in the middle of it with his nightly reports, his features from the ballparks, and his spot on observations. I remember Eddie sitting down and doing great interviews with Kenny Stabler, Rick Barry and Reggie Jackson among others. We're gonna miss ya Eddie!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-4758340630968160512013-02-27T16:09:10.253-08:002013-02-27T16:09:10.253-08:00I grew up watching Fast Eddie on KABC in Los Angel...I grew up watching Fast Eddie on KABC in Los Angeles when KABC was THE boss in LA TV News, the mid-late 70's. He then went to San Diego where he was involved in a restarant the failed badly - law suits flew. I had moved to the Bay Area in '83, and was working in a warehouse in South City and in walks Eddie - working for Pitney Bowes. Smooth as silk, just as he was on TV. Ran into him a couple of years later at Safeway in San Bruno, looking a little worse for wear.
But during his stint in LA - he was King. Eddie was a fast talking, charming guy who I got to know slightly when I worked working in small market TV in Eureka and I used to come down to the bay area to cover the local teams. He was very friendly and was seemingly easy to get to know, although I had no inkling of his problems when I knee him back in the 1970s. Eddie had a very distinct style on the air, and it's true that Gary Radnich's style on KRON is somewhat similar. Like Gary, Eddie projected a friendly demeanor to the audience and always seemed to be able to draw athletes out of their shells with humor and disarming questions.

'Fast Eddie,' was a hard worker and was also respected by his peers. It's s shame he had legal problems and that that will unfortunately always be a part of his legacy. I enjoyed his work and getting to know him, 'back in the day.'Bruce Macgowannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-15644520894742977772013-02-27T08:50:29.402-08:002013-02-27T08:50:29.402-08:00Add Darya and we are in the dark ages...Add Darya and we are in the dark ages...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-76729430845012354092013-02-26T21:10:32.820-08:002013-02-26T21:10:32.820-08:00Nice observation.
