When it comes to actually hiring - well, just look around any media or tech organization - and tell me how many blacks you see - and I know it's not because blacks don't apply, because I have lost track of how many times the qualifications on my resume have apparently jumped off the page because of how quickly I got an interview, then had what felt like a great interview, only to be told afterward "we are pursuing other candidates who are better 'fits" for the position." The concept that being black is an "asset" an a job search is laughingly ridiculous. Worked with a guy at an agency where admin was overwhelmingly white but some diversity scattered about and a largely Asian finance unit. He carried on about how he felt like a minority. Our entire division was white except me.

It's like the joke about how the first black person who moves into a white neighborhood is tolerated. When the second black family moves in, for sale signs pop up.

A new black weatherperson was hired locally. At every company I've worked, they've gone out of their way to recruit blacks. They've had special committees (given euphemisms, of course), and a few even had a policy that if the person were black they got the job, period. So why are there so few blacks? They simply don't apply! Seriously. Even at the very young level. I just went to a science fair at my nephew's school in Oakland. It's 60% black and not a single submission to the fair was from a black person. Outside on the b-ball court there were about a dozen blacks taking shots, however, even as inside there were a bunch of "minority recruitment stations" waiting for them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-53276622350185909232015-06-15T21:38:43.922-07:002015-06-15T21:38:43.922-07:00I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but I&...I'm sorry to hear about your situation, but I'd say you have only one strike against you, your age.
