They couldn't get any worse.

Outside the inherited or quick-shallow-stupid media and money culture influenced areas, the overall trend of public opinion is against the Millenial phenomenon. Go Columbus or Cincinnati and I can assure you the adults among us still make the big decisions. I KNOW it's that way in Dallas and Atlanta.

I'll repeat what I said below. There's a real vacuum here. Something's bound to happen to return our society to balance and what happened in France yesterday may well be an indicator of where it's to come from. Those who read me on a daily basis know I keep talking about another war, a big one. If that is what happens it'll be the Millenials who go into the wood chipper head first and it won't matter how much or to whom they protest. The community organizers will go first, happened that way in WW II and I'm sure it would happen again.rootvghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03524524048523221143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-21598592370178830822015-11-14T18:12:18.690-08:002015-11-14T18:12:18.690-08:00I'm a gut player because most of the time, it ...I'm a gut player because most of the time, it doesn't betray me. I'm slightly older than you (62). I served 20 years in the military (71-91), went to college in California on the BI Bill (longest 4 years of my life because the liberal wave was just hitting academia strong at the time). Left California for flyover-country and have owned and operated my own business since that time. I hire primarily non-millennials because older (35 & older) workers actually have a work ethic. I've developed quite a contempt for the millennials of late, justifiably if I do say so. I've observed male millennials have adopted the "hipster" look of late, you know, a beard, a knit cap, skinny jeans & what is supposed to be a sport coat, Starbucks in hand, iPhone in the other hand, the "I'M SO SMART" eye-wear with no prescription in the lenses, stupid tattoo's creeping out from under their shirts, Prius in the garage and Netflix on the 56" tube. Most couldn't tell you how many US Senators their state has, but can tell you who's the leader on The Voice. Most can't "DO" anything useful like fix a water faucet, unplug a sink, open the hood of a car, etc.......but THEY DO HAVE A DEGREE !!!!.....courtesy of mommy and daddy, although it's usually a degree in something real useful like Philosophy, Drama, etc.

I too, am sick of having to put up with the iPhone's in restaurants......hell, EVERYWHERE !!! I want to know WTF is so important about themselves that they have to be "wired-up" all the time?....not that I should care, it's really their business and not mine....just wondering. Most reassuring thing I saw at a restaurant yesterday was a 40+ year old dude discontinuing a phone call ON A FLIP PHONE !! as he was entering the place..........

I'll show you how old-school I am:

1) I still carry a flip-phone (with text-block on it) I don't text,...I call the person.
2) I still have a land line in my house....use it every day.
3) I have a wall mounted rotary dial wall phone in my kitchen that I use.
4) I have a 40" wide, double-oven GE electric range made in 1966 in my kitchen.
5) I have DSL for my home internet.
6) I have a 19" Zenith wood console television in my living room....use it every day.
7) My bride of 32 years drives a 15 year old car with 57K miles on it (albeit a 2000 Jag XKR).
8) I drive a 26 year old car with 93K miles on it (albeit a1989 Jag XJ6)
9) I've not played a video game since PacMan was popular (bored me to tears, even back then).

Over especially the last 7 years, I've noticed that the millennials have become quite adept at smugly ridiculing those, like myself, who CHOOSE not to upgrade items, whether household, autos,or "gadgets" (iPhone, iPad, etc.). It's also been my observation that, to the millennials, all that seems to matter is the "appearance" they project to others, be it accurate or not. I know several millennials who sacrifice financially just to be able to drive their stupid-ass Prius.........and they drive it very smugly too, as if they're just soooooooooo much better than those who DON'T drive a damn Prius.

My nephew was on his way to adopting many of the millennial traits I've listed above, including the smug ridicule of me for "having such old shit"........that is, until he discovered his name in my Last Will & Testament. I guess seeing a paid-for house with a pool, 2 paid-for Jaguars, some paid-for commercial property and buildings, and a paid-for rental home made him decide that having "old shit" wasn't such a bad thing to be guilty of after all. He's the only millennial I can tolerate in my life so far.....but he's on thin ice.

In summation, thank you Rich for allowing me to rant.......after all it's YOUR blog.....BUT YOU STARTED IT !!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-7717685839889122912015-11-10T20:13:44.090-08:002015-11-10T20:13:44.090-08:00Millennials may be on the phone a lot but at least...Millennials may be on the phone a lot but at least they can write coherent English which is more than I can say for Anon @2:37's comment.

Just bouncing around from advertising, to an expensive camera, to the newspaper industry, to his niche audience, to his children without making a single identifiable point...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-62935188776288797662015-11-10T20:07:25.031-08:002015-11-10T20:07:25.031-08:00Fuck douchebags of any age.Fuck douchebags of any age.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4029870750479192711.post-35001005073021595532015-11-10T20:06:35.881-08:002015-11-10T20:06:35.881-08:00I'm far older than you, and I don't unders...I'm far older than you, and I don't understand where he's coming from, either. They'd rather see video than read a long-form story. As for how much they spend, I believe advertisers are making huge errors in judgment by trying to cater ads to them. Just look at all the animation now in advertising aimed at adults. Old farts like me may not buy like millennials but my last camera cost more than most millennials will spend on a car. Add up my gear, and it's half of what a house will cost in mid-America. I'm in my mid-50s and saw my industry mostly destroyed: publishing newspapers. In my work which has picked up in the past two years, I cater to a niche audience filled with people of varying ages, cultures and countries. But, I agree with you.
