Great insights, Rich. Honestly, I can’t see how KNBR is making a dime. Their ratings are in the gutter, advertisers are vanishing, and even with Uber drivers, fan boys, stat geeks, and washed-up hosts filling airtime, they still have to cut paychecks. The only thing keeping the lights on is Cumulus corporate propping them up—but that kind of subsidy never lasts. Companies aren’t in the business of bleeding money.
Has someone informed the talentless annoying “Dirty Works” trio including strange board guy now in the mix? Their egos think we are interested in their mundane/well duh takes and shitty personal lives. I recall Copes in one “episode” acknowledged he made up some personal story he shared earlier for some strange reason. WTF should we believe although who gives a shit anyway? If they are fired finally, great. If any or all of them try to do their own thing, e.g. podcast, even Rich would have more listeners especially since he milked lots of the Owens’ saga followers.
John Dickinson's post-warriors game show much better than the one on The Game --and you don't have to sit through ten minutes of commercials before it starts.
You’ve said the Bay Area has no news talk. Respectfully, that isn’t accurate. There’s a great deal of it—some of it very good. It’s just no longer found on the traditional AM dial in your car. Instead, it’s available through podcasts and live streaming, which still allow for real-time call-ins.
For instance, I listen to Michael Savage daily and occasionally call in. He once broadcast on AM, but he evolved to the podcast format, where he continues to have a large audience.
So the issue isn’t that news talk has disappeared; it’s that it’s shifted platforms. I’d suggest rephrasing your reporting to reflect that reality.
The only thing dirty about "Dirty Work" is that someone actually pays for them to speak into a microphone. If Adam Copeland and Derek Papa are on the air but no one is listening, are they really sportsbroadcasters? @6:58 PM Nope, it's not going to have much impact. Would you rather listen to Kopey Kopes and Larry Kruger drone on for 3 hours or watch the morning games?
Rich-Can you please reach out to KCBS for comment and ask why/how they continue to air and re-air a written, anchor voiced (not taped) story regarding revenue generated from this year's NBA All-Star Game at Chase Center....in JULY!?! In addition to the 'teases' beforehand, the story itself references this month twice within the copy. Trouble is the NBA doesn't even play during the summer months; it was held in February. Clearly, nobody there knows when the sport is played, nor fact checking or proofreading copy before airing it over and over again.
@11:34am - Rich can't reach out to KCBS for comment - they won't take a call from such a notoriously negative crank blogger with bruised ego issues and an axe to grind.
The country station is above the rotten kumquat sports loser station 🤣
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can bring back K-FOG to 104.5

DeleteIt will be interesting to see if the Giant's getting back into the playoff race and the start of the 49ers' season will have an impact.

ReplyDeleteWhat passes for programming at KNBR nowadays are nepobros regurgitating google search results. Scintillating!

ReplyDeleteKNBR is dead air outside of the Giants and 49ers.
