Saturday News and Notes; Weather Ego; Juliette Goodrich Hunch; Bristow 'Pipes' on KCBS

Image result for saturday morning san francisco SATURDAY NEWS AND NOTES...

Five straight days of blue skies and sunshine which is driving Bill Martin, Roberta Gonzales and Spencer Christian nuts.

Weather people have this enormous ego problem, it's all about them, them, them..!

I'm half-kidding but knowing most of them they really like the extra air time. And that's just fine but please, before the drought when it was the same weather pattern day after day KTVU's Martin looked silly with that "WeatherAUTHORITY!" graphic behind him. Absurdity really. At least now there's something to talk about. Finally.

*Just a hunch: Juliette Goodrich will probably leave KPIX and head to another local station. My best guess is that PIX doesn't want to pay her and just takes her for granted and Jules will end up somewhere else and become the major talent she should have been at 855 Battery but his highness wouldn't step to the plate because he's simply incapable --unless it involves obscure talent from Hawaii. Kenny Choi, Betty Yu? Yeah, that's just genius talent that nobody in the Bay Area watches nor cares.

*This is my issue with Jon Bristow --it would be nice if he didn't sound like an FM DJ about to let loose with some Top 40 tunes...Bristow has, as we've described here, great "pipes", a booming, baritone voice but he could soften the pitch and apply to the fact he's doing AM News on KCBS and not AOR --it would sound a lot better and that's the truth. You can do it Jon.

  1. I blame all of the recent rainstorms, flooding, mudslides, accidents, and washed out roads on Raddy. It's all his fault. All of it!

  2. It wouldn't surprise me if one of your blog trolls with connections to His Highness tries to prove you wrong on Jules, likely based on added exposure because of the parent network's successful prime time programming. Also not sure if the best alternative would be willing to part with any of its anchors, not to mention how well that ND is willing to get along. The alternatives after that? Nope on all counts.

  3. Female reporters and anchors don't don't bounce in this market very well.
    Why?
Because they are all mostly frumps. never allowed to be even slightly "girly" for the fear of offending the alt-lesbo and Alt-manhater crowd.

No "sexy" being a BA reporter...just a bunch of PC dictates. Good luck hopping stations here.

    1. Are you shitting me?

Unless you've been weaned on Fox News, they're a bunch of bimbos. Heather Holmes? Gasia McAlien? Collagen-lipped Betty Yu? Vicki "I'm 50 but I want to look 30" Liviakis? Natasha "LOL" Zouves? Serious journalism is dead in the Bay Area. I look at the current crop and think it's The Real for white people.

(P.S.: Learn to spell and write coherently. I think you probably have been weaned on Fox.)

    2. 4:31 thank you for the misogynist input. Your mother (or wife) must be proud.

    3. 4:31...The award for the most obnoxious female host on daytime TV goes to the Asian one on "The Real." She tries to be the life of the party, look at me, look at me, I'm extra special!! I'm hoping someone from the audience would run up and put a bag over her head and tell her to shut up! She thinks she is sooo cute!!

  4. Bristow's presentation is highly professional putting KCBS on the same footing with sisters WCBS, KNX etc. BTW, Mike Simpson (former KGO & KFBK) is doing a great job in afternoon drive at KNX 1070. More evidence of KGO's decline as they threw away good talent for long term back benchers.

  5. His highness at 855 Battery gets the same viewership with "talent" costing probably 1/4 what Ms. Goodrich costs. That's the genius.

  6. I agree about Bristow. I see Mike Surgerman is getting a lot of air play on the CBS Radio World News.

    1. CBS Radio News will be gone in a year, if I understand the terms of the merger with Entercom correctly.

    2. 12:36, you don't. Understand correctly, that is.

  7. I like Drew Tuma on Channel 7 (KGO). He knows his stuff about weather & he seems like a nice guy. Those commercials with him offering umbrellas to people on the street got my attention & I've been noticing him ever since. Not as pretty as Roberta Gonzalez or as funny as Brian Hackney (both on KPIX), but better than anyone else on Channel 7 -- always a pleasure to see him.

    1. Drew Tuma is a dork. I watched him this weekend and when Rick Quan reported an athlete's net worth, Tuma exclaimed on air, "Wow." Real professional, Drew.

    2. What's worse, saying 'wow' or talking like a pirate?

  8. I also agreed w/ previous commentator on Bristow's presentation. If he was not there, who would they use?

  9. For some time now, I've been getting my information from no mainstream media source other than weather and traffic from KCBS. Local news from my small local paper. Other news comes from Breitbart and Drudge. It works fine!

    1. So you listen to KCBS,a local paper and then like fantasy news? Got it.

  10. Forget the weather guessers, 17 is closed, hwy 9 is closed, Bear Creek road is iffy and closes with out notice, 152 is closed, and the only way in to Santa Cruz county is 129 to Watsonville or 92 to Half Moon Bay then south on 1. These idiots don't get it. I know, I live it and commute it.

  11. Bristow is fantastic. But, guess we all need something to bitch about

  12. The last thing Jon Bristow should change is his voice. His voice is a major asset. He doesn't need to "soften" it or pablumize it, at all.

  13. Juliette needs to get off the S.S. KPIX before it sinks like the Titanic

  14. Jon Bristow is the heavyweight star at KCBS. I think they are starting to figure that out. His voice and style are spot on.

  15. ABC7 News Meteorologist Sandhya Patel does a great job at guessing the weather, plus she's very very easy on the eyes.

  16. Bristow is just being himself. He's not a phony, but a 'real' broadcaster, something that is unfortunately in shorter supply these days with so many noisy and annoying and unprofessional youngsters radio and TV management keeps bringing in

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sandyha does an excellent job, and Steve Paulson flies under the radar, but he is extremely competent.b

  18. Dissing Betty Yu? What would you do that for?
