Sal Castaneda Might Be in Position to Cash In at KTVU

Image result for sal castaneda wedding   SAL CASTANEDA is too modest (quietly) a man to acknowledge he's the MOST POPULAR personality at KTVU (Fox2) but we might soon find out if management agrees ...The well-liked Channel 2 Morning Traffic anchor and co-host of "The Nine" has a contract coming up and is well-positioned to become the HIGHEST PAID talent at KTVU.

Castaneda has been at KTVU in various positions for almost two decades. He grew from doing local radio traffic hits, landed the 2 gig and became instantly ingrained into KTVU's repertoire with an insatiably likeable personality among viewers and management alike. His give and take persona and simple-man disposition is a rarity in the business, so much so that Castaneda can handle traffic, reporting on the street and anchoring news as easily as a reporting a fender bender on 880 during a rainy day.

His always-smiling demeanor and upbeat 'tude resonates with viewers too, especially women. I've never heard anything negative about Sal nor has anyone said a bad word about the Bay Area native. That's a rarity in today's cutthroat TV News biz.

Castaneda makes roughly $400,000 (with ratings incentives) --I would expect he get a decent raise and sign long term at KTVU, a move which makes sense and keep Sal at Jack London Square for years to come: try 3 years (with a 4th KTVU/Fox option) at roughly $500,000. That's a lot of money in today's biz but Castaneda has earned it; furthermore, FOX has its local, homegrown talent in check. Makes too much sense.

  1. No one has more on-air flubs and errors than Sal, but after all he's only been doing this for 20 years.

    1. Evidently you don't watch Shepard Smith on Fox News.

    2. You just described CNN and MSBNC.

    3. To 10:53
That morning show on Fox(News and Friends) is the cornucopia of on-air flubs, painful at times. Some might be on purpose (for the usual reasons) but just getting names wrong is enough for the flub hall of fame.

    4. I guess you've never seen Gayle King or Nora O'Donnell on CBA morning news.

    5. It's easy not to flub when you're just making shit up like at Fox News cable.

    6. CNN wikileaks today or tomorrow. Who is making shit up now? Quit drinking the kool-aid, son.

  2. I have been a long time viewer of Sal and Frank when they both anchor Mornings on 2 back in the old old days. Glad to see both anchor still part of the KTVU 2 news family. Just recently, the station keep switching anchors like putting Ross and Alayna Gomez on one day and next, Ken and Heather the next day or someone with Christina Rendon making me feel KTVU 2 is not as great as before.

  3. If people like him...or he makes too much then....
    Goner.

  4. Makes too much sense. Fox will probably "Fox it Up" somehow. Watch them hire Kellyanne Conway to do the local news after the Devil Wears Prada gets chewed up and spit out by the Trump people.

    1. I wonder if KTVU or even Rich Lieberman will cover the hundreds of hours of CNN newsroom footage thats going to drop this week Wikileaks style. The dominos sure are falling on your side. Such corruption!

    2. CNN is really running scared. They had a funny article online where they tried to pre-emptively discredit O'Keefe in every way they could, quite desperate.. and they don't even know the contents! LOL!

    3. Like anyone really needs to discredit O'Keefe? His editing 'skills' in his last couple witch hunt adventures have already done that with the fair minded.

The ham-n-eggers that run KTVU better pony up the dough because I only watch Mornings on 2 for three reasons (Gasia being two reasons) and one of them is Sal.

    1. Wonder how Mike Mibach will feel about this raise? A Riordan grad making more than a St. Ignatius grad?
      Sacrilege!!!

    3. Roger that! It's called News with "benefits." I always search for the station with the women who are most beneficial. The "most beneficial award" so far today goes to Anny Hong, a seductively beautiful woman. Monday, the award went to Jessica, sexy at any age and always will be.

It's 2017 and time to eliminate the "Grandma dress codes." Let them be who they are, beautiful, intelligent, sexy women...News with benefits!

    4. Speaking of Gasia, did you catch the huge Mr T style gold chain she wore on Monday? I half expected her to scream: "I pity the fool Dave Clark!"

    5. I love me some Gasia, believe me.

    1. I do too - that's when I first heard of him. I also remember he used to hit nightclubs like Echo Beach and the DNA Lounge and pretend he was a big deal.

    2. I only remember him with Big Rick.

  7. Didn't Sal get into a fight with some black comedian who wanted traffic updates?

  8. " hire Kellyanne Conway " Fox only hires attractive women not former men.....

Sal needs glasses that fit his face...

  9. Radnich is now doing THREE commercials for three different company's. You think NEXSTAR already cut his salary?
Plus,he's doing interviews again for KRON. First time in years he's left the building to do that for them.

  10. He's always reminded me of the weather man with Ron Burgundy. Deer in the headlights look

  11. Ross and Alayana are Saturday night only, right? Alayana can think fast on her feet and conveys sincerety. I wonder how she would do paired with another anchor?

  12. I miss the old Sal before he got Foxified...He now has an attitude of self-importance that makes him look phony (lack of caring when he flubs on the air)...I want the old Sal back when he was more professional.

  13. I really enjoy his Sal & Steiny podcast. I'm a Bay Area native currently living in SE Asia for work, and I never miss their discussions because it's fun and it keeps me connected to the sports scene in NorCal

  14. Sal Castaneda is to become the highest paid talent at KTVU.
Not too bad when you consider he was just a traffic reporter not to long ago.
This must make Mark (the shrimp) Ibanez furious.

  15. Maybe they can get rid of Dave Clark and replace him with Sal. Then find a replacement for Sal. KTVU would probably save money that way

  16. I guess that's what the market will bear, but speaking as an outside observer, it's crazy that people can be paid that much to read a teleprompter.

POTUS -- a position that requires intellect, thought, careful consideration, and carries enormous influence (current jobholder notwithstanding), is paid the same amount!

If people want to know why current society is well on its way to destroying itself, the value system is a good place to look.
