Gary Radnich Read the Riot Act at KRON

Image result for Gary Radnich KRON 4 Lower-level execs at KRON --image consultants, really, has told the GM and powers that be, that Gary Radnich's patented shtick --pretty much what he's been doing for 30 years--is growing tiresome to Bay Area viewers.

The Don Rickles act has lost its charm. It may have at one point been entertaining and funny but it's no longer creative nor worth waiting through the KRON News doldrums to watch Raddy do his thing.

The few viewers who actually watch KRON no longer feel "comfortable" watching the Radnich segment. Whatever "it" factor that existed has long ago disappeared.

It may have peaked big time with the Catherine Heenan incident which embarrassed the senior KRON anchor and exposed Radnich's pariah status at the station with several of its employees.

Radnich was read the riot act --basically, "shape up, or ship out!" It's that simple.

Radnich used to enjoy considerable clout at KRON --both in its NBC and post-NBC days, but that juice has evaporated. KRON has been getting lots of feedback through viewer surveys and general e-mail non-favorable of Radnich. Again, most of that came after the on-air brouhaha with Heenan but Radnich's act has been growing tiresome for some time now. Finally, KRON, its managers has had enough.

How this translates on-air is already evident. Radnich has been noticeably more humble and has backed off the "insult-the-anchor" playbook. He's still in the mindset of "joking" and "jostling" with the likes of Pam Moore and Steve Aveson, but Aveson has had enough and Moore only puts up with it because she's a friend. That friendship goes back a long time but it too is rapidly diminishing.

No wonder KRON has finally had enough. Heck, one of these days I wouldn't be shocked if they told Raddy to hit the street.

  1. I always thought that Rich was reaching when he compared him to Rickles. Being a fan of Don and having recently read his book I just didn't see the connection.

Fast foward to a week or so ago. Gary was doing something live from the patio or some bar or something and busted into his trademark one liners. He moved from one joke to the next quickly and in between said, "so anyway uh". Thats Dons trademark line. Now I get it, Rich.

    Now I believe Rich.

  2. I'm surprised Gare never hooked up with Pam Moore seeing as tho he likes the colored ladies. Or did he...?

  5. He is no longer a draw, and in fact is a detriment.

  6. I like Gary's schtick. He's funny, knows sports but doesn't take it that seriously. And it shouldn't be taken seriously. Sports is entertainment, not life and death like news. I am not sick of Gary. I am sick of the boring milktoast cookie-cutter sports guys.

    1. He knows sports from 25 - 30 years ago, I'll give him that.

    2. Radnich's efforts are perfunctory and unprofessional. For a reporter with his tenure, his knowledge of sports in general is weak. Sports may not be life and death, but that is no excuse for a half-assed/smart ass approach toward a high profile/high paying gig.

    4. I always wonder how he gets away with saying "I'm not a robot who just reads 2-1" Only..he always seemed to side with management, let it be known he likes Rush Limbaugh..money,money ..
Like he IS a robot for the status quo to rub in the face of the bay area..the liberal bay area.

Yeah,he's a personalty. I'm still waiting for the personality on the sports TV media to say something at least Democratic...and funny.

  8. Yo Fat Man: Your act is stale. Your ignorance shows on a daily basis and people can get a quadruple dose on The Sports Bleeder and KRON. But only if they want to wretch. Why don't you quit before you fall through the floor? Read the writing on the wall. Pay attention. Stop looking at your old video clips. You suck. You were never really that good anyway. Take your Bentley and hit the road.

  9. He was enjoyable before they made him pair up, when he didn't have to fight for attention and air time.

  10. It's about time! His schtick is outdated, unfunny and embarrassing. There was a time where KRON was better than that and should be striving to be better again.

  11. Gary Radish should retire with his MILLION$ and go drink away his afternoons with the boys at the bar, where his schtick will still be adored.

  12. Tuned in for 5 seconds after a 10 year hiatus, still with the exact same one liners. Besides, I don't think he has followed sports in 30 years. Live a little o bloated one...

  13. He will milk it for every dollar he can.
    The cow is running dry....

  14. How does anyone know that the Heenan/Radnich dust-up wasn't planned?? Controversy develops interest and interest is what KRON needs!!!

    1. Yeah, just like New Coke was planned. And Maker's Mark adding water to its bourbon. Princess Diana was murdered by enemies of Dodi Fayed. And Bush knew about 9/11. And Patty knew Roger Patterson would be in Bluff Creek that day.

P.S.: I know Catherine and she wasn't happy about what happened. But that aside, you're an idiot.

    2. HILARIOUS Patty reference, 3:47. I wonder if anybody gets it.

  15. Gary is the worst sports anchor hands down...that's why CSN booted his ass after one year. Why? because he doesn't care about the sports he covers...He cares about himself...He's doesn't give me details that others do. Scott Reiss is the most underrated sports anchor in the market.

  16. And,WHY does he wear a Nehru Jacket in 2016? Must be part of the KRON KULT wear?

    1. Yes wearing that Nehru Jacket is tough to digest.

  17. Radnich would have been fired long ago at most stations, but the ratings are so at KRON, nobody really cares if they're turning away viewers. I mean they've probably got 5,000 households on a typical night, somewhere below a 1 rating. When you watch their news, you get the impression that nobody really cares that much. It's one notch above public access TV.

    1. Radnich is paid because he contributes to the bottom line. If KRON could make more money by firing him, they would. Plain and simple.

  18. If they boot him, how, oh how, will The Morning News fill 30 minutes without 'The World According To Gary', and then repeats at 9:40am?

  19. Maybe he'll take his Bentley on the road and recreate "Bay Area Backroads" for KRON!!!!

  20. Will it come from over the mountains or from where the paddlewheels plod?

  21. Steve Aveson's new tactic is too laugh-hard- at all Radnich jokes. He even tosses in lots of clapping for effect.
    Radnich thinks its real.

  22. Today on the radio he told Krueger that he (raddy) will start a blog off all lies about him.
THEN, Raddy plumbed the lowest area of contrarian he could find last night on KRON "Oh,I don't want to hear people talk about Casilla's who sweats and does while others just watch"
LOL. He's now a saint that Radnich.
