 Frank Somerville takes a mysterious "vacation." That's what they're talking about in Jack London Square at KTVU. The senior KTVU anchor has been absent this past week at the beginning of the September rush.

Go figure.

Then there's Julie Haener who worked the Sunday Night 10 O'clock News which wouldn't be such a big deal but Haener's been doing the weekend 10 a lot lately leading to speculation about her long-term status at Fox2. Is there a status at all? Who's minding the store? Better yet, what's the direction at Channel 2? Is Heather Holmes honing in on Haener's place? Questions abound. And like KPIX, communications seems to be a commodity at KTVU.

Nobody in the newsroom seems to know just what the heck is going on. The ND seems to be more fixated on looking for staff leakers to this website, leaving the rank and file to wonder about status updates.

Who's anchoring tonight? Is it Holmes? Frank Mallicoat, Ken Wayne? Again, nobody has a clue and that's apparently the state at KTVU where the Fox zombie machine is in full throttle force.

May the force be with you.

At least Holmes seems to be on her game. She bought another pair of shoes at Nordstorm.

Mark Ibanez
*Meanwhile, over at KTVU Sports, the talk is about the ongoing battle over airtime but when you have 4 sports anchors isn't that a byproduct of too many anchors? Mark Ibanez is continually to inform people that he's the boss and "don't you forget it."

Ibanez seems to have flaunted his authority and maintained his image by wearing shorts in the newsroom, always a positive sign because "that's the sporting life."

*The other day I mentioned KNTV new ND, Stephanie Androuny, is poaching KGO-TV staff, mostly off-air production people.

But I was informed it might be difficult to get staff as it's widely known that NBC doesn't pay as well as the other stations (except KRON) so Androuny may have to recruit a little harder.

*Hey, look who got married? KGO's Reggie Aqui.

Hey, Reggie Aqui got married

  1. I Frank didn't catch the head lice that tore through the sales and traffic offices last week. The memo said it may be that new superlice. They should wash those loose hair brushes in the newsroom to avoid infection.

    1. How could they penetrate the hair spray? You'd think they'd just bounce off ol' helmet head.

  4. The question mark behind the word married is absolutely correct. Which one is the bride? Social decay at it's finest hour. No grandbabies to worry about, sorry parents!

  7. To the average person, that shot of Heather reclining is just that....

    But to a "FOX Man", that shot of Heather says ....
    Foot fetish= Sex
    Legs= Sex
    Shoes=Sex
    Food=Food

    Straight out of the FOX Style Book.

  8. They (and by "they" I mean management since Fred Z left) did what management always does: they took something that was running perfectly and broke it. Then they blamed the people who'd been running it perfectly. That's what the C-suite does these days. Then they vote themselves huge pay raises and bonuses for doing it.

  10. I saw a feature on the Sunday morning KTVU news that mentioned Frank was going to participate in the Urban Shield training exercises and it would be for 48 hours. So if he is doing that, he is not available to anchor the evening news.

    So I don't think there is anything amiss with Frank not doing the evening news for the last few nights.

  11. Two station I am consider boycotting, KTVU 2 evening news and KGO 7 altogether. Main reason is the station must replace good veteran anchors will new or younger age anchors. There is no point for doing this except veteran anchors salary is way up and new/younger anchor can never beat that price. For Julie, even if she was off for a few months last year as announced of her Facebook does not mean KTVU need to move her on Sundays and promote Heather more and more. This is like watching Ama last year getting replaced by a new anchor for a week or two and officially, they promoted the new anchor as top anchor on a different time slot. I felt bad for those veteran anchors doing their best job to deliver the news each day and the station want to keep them, sure, move them....they cannot say NO.
