Krukow And Retirement; Mike Sugerman's Annoying Voice; Fox Screws With KTVU Staff; Greg Papa $500G Coin; Jon Miller's 'Uh' Count; Sunday 415 Media Deli

The KRUKOW post about me not being shocked if the Giant's broadcaster were to hang it up after this season was based on Krukow himself telling a friend that he'd already considered it. Kruk's medical condition is not conducive to heavy travel loads and the such. So yes, I wouldn't be shocked. Then again, if he comes back for another five years, that wouldn't shock me either. Maybe Kruk works limited games, only west-coast games and home games, for example. We're not talking life and death here anyway so carry on, boys and girls.

*Dear Dave Padilla of KCBS: Your insipid "Rise and Shine" verbal motto before the top-of-hour news would be great...in Lodi. Button up.

*Add KCBS: Mike Sugerman's "About the Bay" isn't so annoying --Mike, it's your uber-irritating voice inflection that destroys the bit. Maybe do it straight, Mike? I'll buy you an Arturo Fuente if you cooperate.

*Add to the existing list of annoying phrases uttered by broadcasters: "Are you kidding me?" Just please shut the hell up and can it.

*Michael Krasny and Leah Garchik: Yawns R Us.

*That Ben Fong-Torres puff piece about KFOG in today's Pinkie might as well have been handed out by the KFOG Press Release Dept. BFT --Rolling Stone and Jan Wenner are pissed.

*Does Natasha Zouves have the fake voice of all fake voices? Dear, look up "sincerity" in the dictionary.

*It's not just the reporters that FOX is screwing with over at KTVU (and other Fox O and O's) it's the camera people; one man over in Oakland in particular has lost 30% of his benefits. Bastards you FOX sob's.

*Hey, Bay Area TV News Directors? If you screw with me I'll screw with you --pretty simple and boy, you ain't seen nothing yet.

*Add Greg Papa to the list of some of the highest-paid media Bay celebrities: with the Raiders, Comcast and FM show, about $500 grand.

*CSNBA: your Feldy-Fahreed commercials are not funny and quit ripping off ESPN.

*So, I hear Daffy Duck, uh, excuse me, Dan Dibley on the radio again which can only mean, what? you producers couldn't get Lowell Cohn?

*KGO Radio: Cumulus SF Clearing House.

*Sorry, my friend, but Joe Starkey, broadcaster of CAL Football, time to hang it up.

*Count the number of "uhs" in Jon Miller's broadcasts: if Miller were paid by every "uh", he'd have Trump money.

  1. Yes!! You tell 'em how it is, Rich!! Dave Padilla can rise & shine his ass in the Tenderloin asking for change on the corner for all I care! Padilla, You're Fired!!!

  2. When I think of the bay area news directors the image that comes to mind is when in the "Wizard of Oz" Dorothy slides open the curtain and you see a little man doing hocus-pocus with whistle and bells and smoke. And, then, presto! you have a newscast! O My!

  3. Is anyone really surprised that 49ers Coach Tomsula hung up on Lamont, Tonelli, and Chasta the other morning? He called back, of course, because he has more class than they do. And, Chasta, ... who teaches these women the nasally, screech-owl cackle scubber blit, radio speaking voice ... someone who hates them?

And, sorry, I don't normally do this, but I just have to weigh in on Julliete Goodrich. Her anchoring is superior, however, she has plucked her eyebrows so that she has a permanently horrified look on her face. Fortunately, she got the reverse-raccoon look under control with the glaring white circles around her eyes, but the eyebrows ... you just can't unsee that kind of stuff.

  4. Been a fan of Dave Padilla since KSOL. Nothing wrong with the rise and shine comments. Cool dude, competent reporter, more adequate anchor on weekends.

Mime Sugaeman's dispatches are great and his features (along with Matier's reports) on KPIxX are THE reason i watch the first 15 minutes of the news at 6.

    Difference of opinions. That's cool

  5. Superior over superficial ! I have always thought that about Juliette Goodrich. Seems she is working more now too ? I didn't notice her brows because I am mesmorized by her voice and overall beauty. I hear she is funny and quit witted . Damn wish I worked in that newsroom.

  6. Just want to add again - so disappointed to see the return of Drex on KGO radio weeknights. Pat Thurston is so much better that I can't believe anyone would even consider bringing Drex back.

    3. Drex is awful and I refuse to ever listen to the asshole again. Pat should have her own show. Just another stupid move by KGO.

    4. I agree. Love Pat. I bet her ratings were better than Drex, too.

  7. He lost 30% of his beni's?
So that means his aunts and cousins no longer get free healthcare for life.

    Welcome to the real world.

    2. Anon at 11:44am...what does your post even mean? Fox did not honor existing union contracts and told everybody to get lost or get in line.
      Nice people at fox corporate.

    3. I had no idea Fox Oand O's still had camera people. Their studio shows are robotic camera. The people in the field are cam techs and have to edit, do the engineering of the live shot, and shoot with the camera. Fox told them to get bent, same with the operations people in studio who put the station on the air.

They all lost 30% of their pay.

  8. Hangover from too much Saturday night, Rich? You're even grumpier than usual.

Go take a walk in the sunshine.

  9. I've also read that Krukow may stay on and work via remote feeds from his home.

  10. COX screwed you first by not forcing FOX to honor the new contract. IBEW was neglect in not knowing this. Great job IBEW.

"Derelict" or "negligible"...not "neglect"....ESL or just GOP?

  11. Joe(I never give the score) Starkey has been done for years. It is time that Cal gets Roxy Bernstein(A real Cal guy) doing their football play by play.

  12. Good for her. People should feel free to enjoy their work space and not be ridiculed for it. Zouves is exactly what this station needs. A breath of fresh air.

      Apparently, it's now stale.

  13. Hey zippy: when a station transfers ownership, the union has nothing to do with it. It's the new owners choice to either honor the contract or not. The existing contract was with Cox; when Fox bought the place, they weren't compelled to honor it. Plain & simple. Sounds like Fox plans to turn the station into another KRON--buy good thing and mess it up.

  15. Lieberman is on a roll with this one, folks. He hit everything on the head. Good work. Benny, the Chinese/Latino, is a shill for all radio stations. Don't expect him to be like Dick Lieberman. It's a shame. Benny is just so kissy assy. Makes me pukey barfey.

Sad for Krukow's health, but he's not a Hall of Fame broadcaster. He's a homer. Hall of Famer constitutes someone who's done exemplary work. I guess at the clown college that would apply. But not here. The Giants drummed up that bit of publicity on a slow baseball news day in the winter.

Joe Starkey has got to go. He is also a homer for the school and doesn't do a good job of telling you the score and what's going on the field. Age doesn't matter. It's all about the talent (or lack thereof, in this case). He's still living off Kevin Moen and the band. What a bonanza!

  16. The Giants broadcast crew now ought to hired just-retired pitcher Jeremy Affeldt...he's a clever fellow, has a great sense of humor and would bring a wonderful player's perspective to the broadcasts...if anyone at KNBR has any brains (don't count on this, then), please contact Affeldt's agent.

  17. 8:36, you are 100% correct on Krukow. He is a total homer and his act -- grab some
pine meat and gamer babes -- is old and tired. He needs some new material. BOTH
he and Kuiper should NEVER be in a discussion about HOF broadcasters.

  18. I think Feldy-Fareed commercials are funny. Having them sing "Down Under" to Bogut is hilarious--capped off with a fist bump. The commercials with Brandon Crawford are also funny.

Speaking of Crawford, the Giants commercial "Full Clubhouse" was hilarious.
