Sze-Thomas KGO-TV Feud Is For Real No Matter How Much You Try To Spin It; KRON Possible Sale Makes Sense In Spite Of Million Obstacles; Ronn/KGO Gets Bogged Down By PPM Poop

No matter how much any of the occupants over at the ABC Broadcast center want to spin it, yes, there are plenty of differences of opinion on how the show goes between KGO-TV's Kristen Sze and Eric Thomas; everything from the look to the actual content of the news in the morning. It's not toxic to the point of ruining everything else; both people, in spite of their relative contempt for one another, are professionals and would never jeopardize their career nor ABC7's morning content but sooner or later, management is going to have to break in, maybe propose a beer summit or something related.
From a Circle7 source: "Sze thinks she's the smartest person in the room and is constantly trying to sabotage her co-anchors. She has the same problems on the 11am newscast with Cheryl Jennings. She constantly runs to the boss to "tattle" and I think they're sick of it."

*A KRON sale would make perfect sense --outside of the million or so obstacles involving broadcast law and other issues --just remember: in spite of its own management incompetence both locally and from the good folks at Media General, KRON is an albatross located in market#6 with a clear signal and vital potential. Don't pooh-pooh some big-pocket with amazing patience and broadcast bureaucratic pull.

*JUST WHEN I LAUDED HIM THERE HE GOES AGAIN DEPT: Good old Ronn Owens opened his KGO Radio show this morning talking about Rudy Giuliani's statement that "Obama doesn't love America" foolishness. Owens ripped Giuliani's dumb remark but he framed the hour in his own way ensuring every moron to agree with RG and a few Berkeley radicals to lambaste Ronno for even bringing it up. It was compelling radio; just when it was gathering talk-show steam, Owens stopped the proceedings to take a break, (naturally) and flow into another topic--the PPM handbook still controls!

  1. Isn't the Bay Area the 4th largest market? Doesn't including San Jose put them at that spot?

    2. If you take Santa Clara County out of the market, we drop from #6 to #11.

  2. Rich, its worse than you know. Thomas has had it with her bullshit! He also never wanted the morning gig but took it for the $$$$. Truth be told, Eric is sick and unhappy in other ways aside from Ms. Wonderful but you've to feel for the guy. He deserves a purple heart for putting up with her out of control eqo at zero dark thirty.

    1. If she is mad about being passed over why is she mad at Eric Thomas? I like her but she is not evening material not that Daetz is. When you get passed over look at yourself and she has the benefit of reviewing the tape. Lets face it the perky sitting forward in the chair with the cheesy banter is more morning.

  6. What was up with Ronn's voice? It has been a few months since I've listened to him, but he sounded terrible and almost as if he'd had a stroke. Any updates on this?

    1. Ronn does not sound like himself at all. His Giuliani take was predictable and empty. I flipped over to 910 today and Weintraub was in for Ed Baxter talking about the same thing. I don't mean to make this about age but the contrast between the two was remarkable. Weintraub takes no calls and is a bit hysterical but he is far more energized and involved than Owens is. If Ronn had no calls he would not even know what to do and I think that has a lot to do with his age. His voice does sound shaky. I still don't care for Chip Franklin. He seems nice and all but I heard him discussing the Catholic Church today and he's just not saying anything overly interesting. I like the man on the street stuff but a talk show host that does not make. Gil Gross is a lot more on the ball than Owens at this stage of the game. I think they should replace Owens with Gil at this point. He should leave the wife at home though. Last week he covered Bob Simon and it was great radio. I was not as moved as some of you were by the Owens interviewing Rothmann segment because I don't think Owens brings a lot to that. I also heard Rothmann on 910 yesterday and while I like him when he's interviewed he does nothing for me as a host. Something has to change in Bay Area radio already. Need a host I can count on that makes me leave the dial in one position.

    2. Are repubs trying to out do each other with idiotic comments? Why does anyone pay attention to what Giuilliani has to say? Is he preparing for another presidential run? Michael Savage got it right years ago when he said Giuilliani would never be elected because he is unknown west of the Hudson River. Next case...

    3. Why is Whinesob even on the air? He said he was done with radio after KGO canned him. Is 910 home of KGOs castaways?

    4. Where and when did he say that? I'm on this radio facebook page and I've never seen that at all. I'm sensing you don't like him.

    5. I think Rothmann is back on 910 today and I have to agree he's a bit too dry and boring. KKSF is such a weird station. Does anyone have data on the Armstrong and Getty show in San Francisco? It cannot be good! I am hot and cold on Chip Franklin. I gave up on Owens years ago when he proved to be a selfish a-hole.

  7. I hate to rag on anther woman but I'm very surprised that KGO thinks she's all that because I find her quite annoying. There shouldn't even be a debate, in my opinion.

  8. I'd love to see Eric on "Mornings On Two," instead of Dave Clark, imvho.

  9. I watched this morning and the two of them were more friendly than ever. Sze introduced the Warriors Chinese New Year jersey and everyone looked like best buddies. The funny thing was meteorologist asked to see it and when Sze hesitated, he said, "I'll give it back, sheesh."

  10. Ronn follows PPM now? Says a lot about what he thinks of himself if after 30 years he's trying out new strategies. Also says a lot about who's making decisions on his show. One guess? Not Ronn.
