KCSM Jazz FM Saturday; How To Spend Your Birthday The Right Way

The sky is gray --intermittent showers hover around--I'm driving around and listening to Sonny Buxton and his lucid tones on the magical KCSM, (91.1 FM); this is a Bay Area musical treasure.

I love jazz. I could listen to jazz all day and forget about all other things that seem trivial.

  1. I'm with you baby. KCSM is always great. Even my two young kids ask me to tune in to "the jazz station" when we sit for dinner. Kcsm sounds even better in this weather. Get me another glass of gevrey-chambertin and turn it up the volume. Here's a toast to Lieberman! Happy b-day baby.

  4. I love all kinds of music now that I'm past sixty. I was a teen ager in Denmark when Copenhagen was one of the best cities in Europe for jazz. Although I grew up 30 miles south of Copenhagen, my friends and I would take the train into the capital to listen to some outstanding jazz, one Club had all the heavy hitters and like most clubs and bars was open to 3-4 a.m. Dexter Gordon lived in Copenhagen for many years and in the early to mid sixties he was a stable in a Club named Montmatre, he was joined by another American Kenny Drew and the late great (the big dane) Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen, I feel so lucky to have been privileged to witness their playing live several times. Ben Webster also played there from time to time (he was located in Amsterdam) unfortunately I never saw him live, but do have Cd's from his live performance at Montmatre. By the way if you go on u tube and google Montmatre and Dexter Gordon you can see some live performance from the Club. Certainly took me back to my native country and the good times we had at Montmatre. Sorry, for the novel, but although I love rock and roll from the sixties, some classical music, folk music, jazz was my first love, and when I couldn't help comment on my past. Anyway, Happy Birthday Rich, you are an Aquarian as am I

  5. Karel went bonkers on Saturday night. At the bottom of the 10:00 hour he was playing a pre-recorded rant in a evangelist voice, keeping it live, keeping it local. Watching the video stream, he kept wandering into the view of the camera, getting into the sound of his own voice, touching himself and miming the words. Two things came to mind; The "tucking" scene in Silence Of The Lambs, and the TV host in V For Vendetta when he is in the shower while watching his own show. Hilarious and creepy. He was also lighting up when he thought he was out of view. I have no problem with marijuana, but I wonder if Cumulus has a policy for not being impaired while on the air. Oh, and he bashed you and posters here.

  7. Hope you had a great birthday!

Yes, KCSM is still a station I listen to regularly, it's the first (#1) preset on my FM car radio. Sometimes during the week they play too much soft/modern "jazz", but there is still a great deal of proper "straight ahead" jazz on the station, no question.

  8. Happy Birthday as I always post. Even f you leave me of your Christmas card list.
See? I don't even remember you did that. A lifetime of people who don't care numbs me to it. So why let you?
    And many more!

  9. Love listening to KCSM whenever I'm in my car in SF or down the peninsula. Unfortunately here in the bay area, if you're driving around and want to tune in, reception is so-so (not good for music but okay for listening to talk), because of all of our hills. But I love the jazz they play.
