Where Was All The Love Before Kevin Metheny Died? Monday Morning Bullet Points

MONDAY BULLET POINTS

Boy, where have all of you admirers of Mr. Metheny been? It takes a man's death for most of you to come out of the woodwork and praise how great a guy he was which maybe he was, I never met the guy but I never heard all this love while the man was still alive.

The only thing I heard about Metheny here was that "he's actually a nice guy." That was it. Nothing else. Owens had him on his show for about ten minutes a few months back but that was the extent of his presence here.

I only judged the man on his management style and although it was brief it was definitely along the Cumulus model which called for putting crappy people on the radio like a couple of young women who said vagina and penis a lot.

Ground-breaking stuff.

*Metheny was given a six-month contract to get KGO on track. By Cumulus standards that's fairly long.

*Renee Bakos: Amateur-hour woman with close ties to the hosts. You have zero respect from the rank and file who think you're a complete idiot but I didn't say that, a staffer did. Keep to the stupid "talk handbook" and keep kissing major tuchas.

*You're going to hear a lot of bullshit today on the radio, ladies and gentleman --a whole lot. Again, I remind you, where was all this love a few days ago? My god even I was seduced.

* The man managed to get radio jobs city to city and elicit strong reaction. I feel for his daughters and family but that's about it. He passed. We all will some day.

*Karel: Well, what did you expect? That he was going to talk about his Apple collection. Wait, never mind.

*Christine Craft: Chris you know I like you for the most part but could you have waited a day before the body got cold about his dogs? For crying out loud, Christine, read the room. A human being passed away and you're kvetching about his dogs?

*Howard Stern: Those of you that think Howard is an asshole have a right to think he's an asshole but he's the only guy who stuck to his story and remained consistent. He said on Sirius Monday morning that Metheny "tortured" him. Over the top? Perhaps, but he didn't back down.

*Before I'm accused of being a stooge because I used "Pig Vomit" and "Pig Virus" and "backed down" on my statement, relax, the man had just passed. It can't be personal when you never met the guy but he apparently read the blog. Quietly I had worked for the possibility of a beer summit to meet him but it never came to pass.

*Randall Bloomquist: Let the bullshit commence.

*The rest of you: See Randall Bloomquist.

  1. Dear Rich, I guess you don't take care of any animals, but the fact is that often, when someone dies suddenly, and has animals they care very much for, there may be no one who can continue that care, especially when the person has just moved here recently. Dogs, and other companion animals don't follow some odd protocol book. They need to be fed, watered, walked, vetted...etc. Very often, in the rush of obligations which follow an unexpected death, family members coming in from different places may have no easy place to put a pair of beloved dogs to assure their continuing care. I hope that in this particular circumstance, that isn't the case. I have long been involved in dog rescue in Northern California. I have connections with many fine individuals who could help keep these two dogs together and well cared for. For many of you, apparently, having them dumped at a shelter and then killed would be just fine. There are several people at KGO who would not want these dogs to go for a day or more without food, water etc. I merely volunteered to help. I would be willing to foster both of them here on a spacious property where they could run and play and be well cared for. That is not disrespectful in any way. I think it would be not a good idea for you or any of these other folks to ever have animals,if you find that so hard to grasp. good day.

    1. I'm with Christine on this one.

I know it's a priority of mine that somebody look after my animals as soon as possible after I die; I would be very grateful for anyone who took such a special interest in these creatures that are like family members to me, and I put a small provision in my will to ensure that.

    2. Me too. When someone dies, and people want to help, it's usually the "mundane" details like pet care, etc. that are most needed. Christine stepped right up immediately to help and I think that's great.

I was very moved by Mike Amatori's and Gil Gross's facebook posts on Metheny. VERY classy, and no, I don't think we have to wonder "where was the love before?" Usually, folks don't write such things out of the blue, and yes--people say nice things when folks die.

    3. Christine's comments showed compassion and care for Mr. Metheny as well as for his dogs. For the life of me, I can't imagine why this would cause anything but admiration. As she explained above, when a person dies suddenly there are animals at home who might be going without water or food or someone to take them out for a pit stop. If Mr. Metheny loved his dogs then I'm sure he would be very grateful to know that they were being cared for. Sheesh!

    4. Christine was called on the carpet by her friend Rich, who told her the blunt truth. And as most of us expected, she quickly patched together a Big Speech,/ Swan Song, describing her angst and exasperation at having to live amongst us emotional Troglodytes. One last pause while clutching the dark velvet curtains, one last doleful stare at those who could be vermin, and then she 'flounced' out of the room, long hair whipping the air like an angry Medusa, never to be heard from again...until maybe tomorrow.,,,Truth to tell, I like Christine too, a lot, but I think High-Drama must be her middle name.

    5. Speaking of bullshit! Christine, you had to use a "nom de plume" from the past on a NATIONALLY read RADIO BLOG SITE (ALL ACCESS) as well as this one to promote dog care regarding Methany's death? Who the fuck do you think you're kidding, woman?

    6. Christine - instead of spreading your own brand of bullshit, please know that Sussman had already posted that staff were contacting ways to keep his dogs safe. You could have gone to the station directly, to the ASCPA or to your own rescue "network." Posting under a fake name on All Access - a radio blog, or here, just to stir up your brand of shit was hideous on your part. Go away.

    7. Dear nincompoop...Since I was the "mom" of Copper who died of osteosarcoma and since I include a full picture of myself with that all access post, I cannot determine why your bowels are in such an uproar over trying to help two dogs. Mr. Sussman's efforts were, as he said, to deal with "a dog". I don't know Mr. Sussman from a hole in the ground, so that really told me nothing.
I am fascinated about your suggestion, however, you being such a protector of dogs in peril. Why would one go to the" ASCPA"? What the hell is the "ASCPA". You are awfully ignorant about where dogs would go in the circumstance of losing their person. It would be San Francisco ACC in the city, but since he lived in Oakland, essentially the Oakland pound. . Do you know what that is? I'm pretty sure you know no one who could watch out for them there. I'm still willing to take them here on acreage with great care, vetting, food, and affection. I don't know who has them or if they are okay. I care. You don't. It's simple. What specific "ways to keep his dogs safe" were "contacted". What would those be, exactly?
As for 10:23's faux outrage and urgent need to capitalize that which doesn't call for capitalization, you accuse me oddly of "kidding" someone. Mr. Metheny spelled his name thusly, so in your reverence for his departed persona, perhaps you could get the name right. I make no pretense of being his closest acolyte. I have no clue as to whether I would have liked him or not. I did like the fact that he loved his dogs, and I hope they are not stuck in a kennel someplace,or worse.

    8. Capitalization of this is fine, Ms. Priss, because it brings to light your shallowness and it's in YOUR wording, no one else's. The comment underneath was from a national reader, not me. Humble people don't rush to radio blogs for aid, well intentioned, for a dead man's dogs. Get over yourself, please.

  2. Sussman repeated condolences to family and closeness of their relationship. Did we also hear a sigh of relief?

Owens sounded weepy . . . while telling how he ate lunch.

    1. You better believe Brian was sounding relieved. Methany was busy,,and had not gotten to focus on the Morning Show problem just yet. That reminds me of when I used to watch the Three Stooges in black and white. Moe would tell Curly, "Hey, Numbskull, remind me to kill you later!" I think at least once, Curly stupidly did just that, and reminded Moe "He wanted to get things settled'.

    2. I call BS. The new KSFO lineup was announced two weeks ago and started a week ago Monday. Sussman was in. For as many times as Rich talked about his impending doom, he was brought back. I asked Rich to address it numerous times however he never prints the comments. We'll see if he prints this one.

  4. A little disingenuous of you Rich.

It's ironic you'd pretend to scratch your head about where all the "Metheny love" was while he was alive. Considering you're famous for deleting comments not aligning with your view on things, we'd likely never know if Metheny had supporters because that wouldn't fit with your narrative, and therefore, and comments contrary to what you had to say would have never seen the light of day to begin with.

I know you won't post this comment, but I know you'll read it, and that's good enough.

    2. @12:11, @10:37 is right on the mark with his comment about disingenuous Lieberman.

It's great that Lieberman is temporarily posting opinions contrary to his own TODAY but that doesn't negate the reality that Lieberman actively censors comments and create the misleading impression that the masses agree with him, regardless of whether they do or not.

  5. Simply not credible for Lieberman to pretend that his vendetta against "Pig Virus" was not personal because he had "never met the guy." Anyone who can read knows Lieberman's assault on Metheny was highly personal.

  6. Obviously Rich went bowling on the Day of Atonement. He lacks class and basic self-awareness. There's a word in the Talmud for Rich--"schmuck."

    1. Lieberman's lack of self-awareness is astounding. He routinely eviscerates others for being just like himself.

    2. Thank you 11:33. I've learned something. I didn't know Jews shouldn't go bowling on Yom Kippur. I'll keep that in mind. Funny post. :)

    Condolences to his family.

  9. I understand your position, as I had never heard even one kind word about him during his life (although I hadn't met him). On a related note, a blog in Chicago has a comprehensive history of his time at WGN there, a station with a similar cache as KGO had here:

  10. Rich. yu never gave the guy a chance to do anything before you attacked him. It was as though you wanted him to fail. How very Rush Limbaugh of you. So don't be surprised that people are calling out your BS.

Where is Metheny's "Secret Black Book"?

      Delete
    2. I think that it it is either located in Al Capone's secret vault, or Area 51. Who knows!? ... One page of my black project development notebook has more value than eight of his.

  14. Also, just wanted to follow up to my previous comment (which probably will NOT be posted) and let you know, should you like to talk... I'll be over here with my UC Berkeley degree, my sweet 4.5 year-old son, and the turn of the century in which the word "bimbo" went bye bye....
