The Towering Inferno Of Bullshit That Permeates The Cumulus/KGO/KNBR/KSFO SF Cluster

EXCUSE ME BUT the bullshit has reached the crisis point.

I have never heard so many blathering idiots and buttheads, disingenuous assholes, who wouldn't know a sincere bone in their body if their life depended on it come out from under the radar.

You frauds!

All of you.

Like you.

You too, you phony POS. Ass kisser!

Let me tell you a story about compassion. I have compassion and understanding for people who know when to shut up and leave the room. They are sincere. They don't cower and hide under their bed covers.

The bullshit. STOP! Please, stop it.

You stupid, ass-kissing industry people with your false sensations and outpouring of what? Nothing, n.o.t.h.i.n.g. Got it? Let me tell you why I don't care what you say or mean. Because all of it truly lacks anything of substance.

I call you out.

Remember, don't bullshit a bull shitter.

By tomorrow, most of you will be getting hammered at Grumpys  and forget about the guy. If he was that swell where the fuck were you when he was alive? REPEAT: Stop the bullshit. Please. Seriously, all of you need to get laid or something. Go to Bakos' office and tell her how amazing she is; go over and send a golly-gee, sir, Mr. Bloomquist, you are divine e-mail so you can get an extra SweetJack coupon for Christmas.

Go hoover Karel too while you're at it--after all, The Man just loved his show. Stooges!

Look, you are on this planet for a limited time. Morbidity and mortality. You, all of YOU, will succumb some day. Death is a bitch. I lost my brother, father too. You want to be a hero? Go to Children's Hospital and see the little kids--that's something to weep for-- everything else is a hunk of bullshit.

The man passed. To his family, condolences. His daughters lost a father. Godspeed to them. Those close to him and his family, we feel for you. The ones who truly KNEW him for an extended time and didn't offer false malaise and cry over the weekend.

Oh, please...

Yeah, I said it. It needed to be said.

Stop the bullshit and get back to your desk, moron.

  1. "EXCUSE ME BUT the bullshit has reached a crisis point."

Mr. Lieberman, I could not have said it better myself. The only thing is you probably don't have enough self-awareness to recognize that you are the facilitator of the bullshit.

I have been reading your blog since I heard KGO was flipping to News, and to be honest it helped me professionally. I understand the dynamics and feel for those who weren't happy with the changes but I'm not oblivious to them. A few years ago former employee Jared Hart was telling our old boss Paul Hosley, "I don't read his blog because it only creates a negative environment." I thought he was being naive at the time but have come to see that he as 100% correct.

The people at 55 Hawthorne are dealing with a tragedy irrespective of what you think of Kevin Metheny. It is not something that is just going to fade away overnight. You are completely uninvolved with the station(s) and the situation, but you have a need to be involved, and to insert yourself into it. You have gone from pretending to care about the man to now accusing people of dishonesty for not HELPING YOU, or for thinking what YOU THINK!

Kevin had his fans and he had his detractors. We all do. But your blog has nothing to do with any of that. You want to use this tragedy to promote yourself. I used to think you actually cared about the radio business, the stations, and all things attached to it. Now I see you're just a person who isn't part of the team, and so desperately wants to be. In your desire to seem like part of the team you're yelling "LOOK AT ME! OVER HERE!"

Sorry, but I am no longer looking. This is a family matter, and a serious matter, being handled by the people who knew Kevin Metheny. Our opinions on him personally don't matter right now because it's bigger than that. This is something you fail to recognize.

Consider this my first and last post on your site, albeit I am sure one that won't see the light of day. Good day.

    2. This is the best post I've read on this site in a long time. I couldn't agree more with this. I used to think this blog was a great check on the problems we dealt with at Cumulus, but over time I realized that the company doesn't care, and the only effect it has is to make me unhappy when I read it. Very little if any predictions ever come to fruition and when they don't happen Rich turns on every single person he's jealous of and DOESN'T EVEN KNOW!

A couple of weeks ago he wrote some comments about Justin Wittmayer, and some of the comments called him nasty names. What purpose did that serve, RIch? You're the arbiter of the comments so you pick and choose what shows up. You have blocked many of mine but here you were allowing people to take shots at a person hardly any of us even know, especially you? What was the point?

This poster got it right. You're not part of the team. You're not part of any team. Because of it you choose to bash every single person who chooses to have a professional career in radio.

I'm impressed you had the guts to post the above. A truthful an honest arbiter of things would let it all through.

It's not too late to turn your life around, Rich.

    3. Yo 149, you wrong fool. Speaking of fools, they are falling all over themselves. I've seen posts on FB just saying how wonderful this guy was.

Yes, the death is tragic and what his family is going through is sad. However, if he was such a jerk to others, why is everyone being apologetic and mournful? You don't give the noose to your executor. You don't help turn on the electricity for your own execution.

The only people sincerely affected are his family. It's them that you should feel pity for. And if you're in shock to read this, perhaps you need to do some self-analysis.

    4. He died in the office. People are affected. A lot of people at Cumulus SF never saw the bad sign of Kevin which he became so well known for. No one is denying he doesn't have a bad sign and there are definitely a number of people in the building who had a very bad experience with him. We only know that because they're not shy about discussing it and Kevin wasn't shy about being who he is. To the majority of the people there though no one had a problem with him, and quite a few witnessed his death. This isn't to say over time people wouldn't have come to dislike him but that wasn't the case over the last few months. Some of you need to have some perspective on all of this. How many of you have witnessed a person die at work, or any place else?

  2. 1:49 is spot on. You're making Metheny's death all about you and your feelings.

You can (will) hide this comment, but you can't escape the truth about who/what you are, and what the vast majority of us in SF media truly think about you.

  3. Seems to me that all the people who were going to lose their jobs aren't now
They seem to be the most broken up....Think perhaps Rich is right on this one

  4. Yes. he's right, and not only that, this is a bright light shining on the phoniest. Most people who were probably saved from the axe would just keep quiet. Only the absolute disgustingly disingenuous would post blogs that praise Metheny to the high heavens. Excuse me, I need to (pig) vomit.

  5. Owen's Facebook post is one of the most saccharine, self-serving things I've ever read. "Poor me. I lost a friend. Please post some sympathy for me." Ugh. OK. Here goes: "Ronn, sorry for your loss."

    ReplyDelete
  6. Predictably ego-involved Brian Sussman posted "My Boss has [sic] Died," including the following excerpts:

“. . . the most talented radio programmer I have ever known.”

“Kevin loved how my teammates and I (Katie Green and Sheri Yee) understood . . ., and we loved him back.”

"Know [sic] one knew better than Kevin that the mission is to provide content that is appealing to a specific audience . . ."

". . . he had earned the reputation as radio’s top turnaround specialist."

Though possibly a triviality, BS used singular rather than plural noun when reassuring readers about care of "dog." Did he know whether it was one or, as stated here, more than one?

A sigh? No, an audible exhalation/exaltation of relief.

    1. Brian and Ronn are pretending they knew this guy so well. Give it a rest already. Did anyone notice any changes in either of their shows since the arrival of Metheny? I certainly did not notice anything different. Both of the shows were still pretty boring. The interview Ronn did with Kevin was probably the lamest radio stunt I can even recall, and a major ass-kissing move.

People like Ronn and Brian want to co-opt the misery of others and it's embarrassing. They didn't know anything about the guy, let alone the supposed talent he put on display. He has a record and it speaks for itself. Lucky for all you people you did not get to know him. You were still in the honeymoon phase.

  7. You don't work at KGO so you have no way of understanding what is really going on there. The people who worked there were traumatized by this event, and for those of us who got to know Kevin, albeit slightly, we feel terrible. Takings shots at those who work at KGO because they wanted to express their feelings is really unnecessary and insensitive on your part. I agree with what one earlier poster said when he (she) commented that you were kind of expressing the need to "LOOK AT ME! OVER HERE!" What is your fascination with ripping the good people at KGO anyway? They are all just trying to make a living while you continue to poke and prod and skewer them with your insensitive, inappropriate, and wholly unprofessional remarks. I feel sorry for you that you have to do this.

  8. These comments sound like they're written by young interns. Not much depth, not much insight. Wonder who put them up to this? He'd only been around a couple of months, hadn't he? How could anyone know him very well? Also, most new bosses in any new job start out being friendly and positive before they get down to the business of firing or reassigning people. If his job was to turn KGO around and try to make it more listenable, seems like a lot of people would be out and a new brand brought in.

    1. Just an observation. Maybe if the entire staff at KGO and KSFO from top to bottom had worked harder, been more competitive with the market played less ego games, got rid of some killers to the format like Karel, Weintraub, Chef Scott and others, things would be better. Not a two share - if that and a dying cume. Maybe if management realized its responsibility and people quit hiding in thnking that AFTRA would take care of them, things might be different.

KGO staff from back office on down has been caught for a long time now, in the workplace snowball effect. It all slides downhill. It affects everyone from interns to the highest paid, bottom to top and top to bottom.

Too much ego, too much fear factor, to much grinding and not enough work being done. "I'm only doing what I was told to do." Maybe that's the excuse of the day or moment, but as an observer inside, I assure you, many of us know better. I can name names and should. Many of my friends and associates are down the halls here and I wish not to be singled out. However, too many KGO non-productive staffers take the easy way out and don't shoulder their responsibilities as we should. Many live in a "Let Kevin do it" world, "It's his job." Guess what? It hasn't worked for three years and it's not going to work now with this approach or attitude. Yes, there are problems clusterwide. Not like at KGO. I fear the next regime may finally wise up then some can complain about losing their jobs when that potential is right in front of their very eyes right now.

We can blame anyone else as long as we blame ourselves, first.

  9. Blowensteinnnnn's faux grief at the passing of Metheney is so over the top that it is laughable. Did he exhibit such over the top sadness at the passing of either Gene Burns or Duane Garrett? Not even close and he knew those guys as colleagues for years not 3 months. Come onnnnnnnn Ronnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!

  10. Happy to report that all canine issues are resolved. For those who have inquired separately about testamentary language to secure the care of your animals, should you pre-decease them, you can designate a sum of money to go to a caretaker for that purpose. These are honorary trusts, both difficult to enforce and often challenged by relatives who want the money and don't care about the dog, cat..etc. It is, however, better than nothing.

  11. There is a lot of bad Karma in that building because of the way Gene Burns was treated...

And enough with the stupid dogs Christine. Aren't you mature enough to deal with the real world people instead of going on and on about dogs? They eat their own feces. Not as intelligent as you would like to make them.

    1. Why don't you put your real name to the statement about how much you hate dogs? Gene Burns owned a pit bull.

  12. I think I speak for a lot of the readers Christine when I say that we're all really tired of your bizarre posts, especially when they deal with dogs . Who the F...cares what you think about dogs? I like dogs as much as the next person, but do you need to constantly post items about them on a blog that has to do with local radio and TV. What's your point? We know you're a dog lover, and that's fine. But enough is enough! If you don't feel like discussing the topics Rich has posted, and want to constantly get into discussion about dogs, why don't you go to an SPCA website? I'm sure they would appreciate your insightful comments about canines. We, the readers and posters here on Rich's site are frankly quite weary of this nonsense. Haven't you got anything better to do? It's sad that a one-time on air person has to spend so much time writing this nonsense about dogs on a blog. Start acting like a mensch, would you please Christine?

  13. Christine, I find your obvious anti-feline leaning quite distressing...have you investigated whether the recently-deceased had any CATS, and how his passing has affected them?

Please, "have some sympathy and some taste."

  14. He did not have any cats. I do, however. To give a family who has just suddenly lost their dad( often discussed while alive on this very blog, by many of you), an option for the care of dad's dog, is neither distasteful, nor unsympathetic. At least, they don't think so.

    1. Then, take it to the ASPCA, the local SPCA, call the freaking radio station and humbly and quietly offer your service of care and survival, go to your animal rescue network of fine people who can help with you, don't fake your name to make some snotty comment about Howard Stern on a national radio blog of people who can't do a damn thin about -- especially when you can privately -- (you egotiscal lightweight) -- and "go through the proper channls" Christine. This isn't it, nor is All Access under a fake name.

You must have the last word on everything. Well, guess what, I contacted my network and you WON'T get the last word here. Period. Go debate Rich on Israel like you've been asked but have been so quiet. That -- quiet -- would be refreshing to hear from you. Mr. Metheny never even knew you, but your kind thought, if not your humbleness - are appreciated. As you said to one poster, "Go to hell." Classless bimbo.

    2. While you sit in that daisy chain circle jerk with your compadres, with your other hand learn how to use the scroll function. You see, that way, you don't have to read what causes you so much odd oedipal angst. Your knowledge of what would happen at the "local SPCA" is woeful. Why would you want someone's beloved animal to be caged, get kennel cough, and likely get euthanized? Did you think the East Bay SPCA didn't euthanize older mixed-breed dogs? Did you think they automatically take every dog brought in?
As for posting on all access, I'll do it whenever I want to. My picture is also there, very unanonymously. I think your ear is impaired also. Why would it be "snotty" to point out that despite their obvious, famous differences, Mr. Stern donates lots of time and money to help dogs.He would likely be just as concerned as I am about what happens when people die suddenly and leave animals behind.
As for Rich's radio show and his insistence that Israel is always right, I've done lots of "volunteer" shows for that radio station in the past. I'm not doing more. Rich knows that and his boss knows that. It's no big whup. Also, there is a big difference between talk radio and an actual debate....
One little thing for your writing future, Capitalization is not writing. Your turn, since you really want "the last word".

  15. Enough with your pet nonsense Christine! It's really sad that because you seem to feel the need to be constantly noticed, (since you are obviously not being noticed much anymore because you're pretty much out of of the broadcasting business), that you have to denigrate yourself by writing these bizarre rants about people's pets.

I agree with 10:26pm. Who really cares what the f.... really cares about what think about anything? Just because you're some former journeyman/woman news person, we're supposed to bow down and be in awe of your observations? Please!

You're pathetic and you would do us all a favor, (as well as yourself), by just 'giving up the ghost' and quietly walking away with your dignity intact. What you're currently doing is not only making you look pretty sad and pathetic but it's annoying to those of us who want to read intelligent, related posts from people who have something interesting to say. You obviously, DO NOT!

  16. As the then new up-and-comer in film, Paul Giamatti, said to Howard Stern in "Private Parts" -- similar to what he could well say to Christine Craft, "Howard you are the anti-Christ."

  17. 7:06... I don't give a rat's ass what you think about anything. Take your ersatz "sadness" and go grow a pair. If you had a brain, you could easily figure out that my posts are very simple to just ignore. Have you heard of the scroll function? Unlike the ever so courageous you, I use my own name. If you see it, to save yourself and your circle jerk friends all that angst, just scroll past. See how simple it is? or not.
When did I ask anyone to "bow down"? Why would you be so upset that a former reporter/anchor, current lawyer and occasional fill in radio host would have a point of view? or would care about an animal in need? I still think it all goes back to your momma. Did she spank you for kicking the puppy?
