Public Doesn't Like The New, Lousy SFGate; KPIX's Night Beat Is In Trouble; De La Cruz: Tainted Brand; KTVU's Villalon Steady As They Come; Ibanez To KGO Rumors Heat Up; Tuesday Quick Starter

 TUESDAY QUICK NOTES STARTER

*If the Chronicle isn't aware by now that their new-look SFGate website is lousy, then Hearst execs are dumber than I thought.

Seems not only can you not navigate the site but when you go there, your pc freezes.

Nice work, Hearst.

*Nobody won't come out and say it and it's only been on for barely three months, but KPIX's experiment at 10 PM, the dreadful, "Night Beat" is in trouble. My insiders at 855 Battery tell me word is that already there's grumbling that the show needs a "major overhaul--maybe a re-tinkering." Yeah, TRENDING!, the grand experiment is an utter failure. No shit, Sherlock. GAME OFF!

*Veronica De La Cruz: Tainted brand. Your "performance" on Monday night was beyond embarrassing. The fake banter with sports boy, Dennis O'Donnell, looked like a Bakersfield talent show.

*Birds of a feather: O'Donnell and Vern Glenn: KRONvicts during the Dan Rosenheim ND era --both of whom worked with Radnich. So, now...you know.

*Speaking of KRON, moving date to the ABC 900 Front building: just before Thanksgiving. Parking passes included.

*The rumors intensify: KTVU's Sports guru, Mark Ibanez will go over to Channel 7 in March when his contract is up. Ibanez won't talk about it but the uncertainty over at 2 combined with impending cuts may have a lot to do with it.

*What's on the horizon at KTVU and FOX, (about to commence an economic-cleansing ), is probably due to hit almost all the other players in the market. KGO is owned by Disney and the mouse company is said to be mulling cuts at its O and O's, ditto CBS at PIX and NBC/Universal at KNTV.

*Debra Villalon at KTVU: Vastly underrated. 33 years in the biz. Bay Area-bred. Damn good street reporter. I like her.

  1. You noticed too the nice tan and Puka shell necklace she wore? You beat me to mentioning her. Didn't she start out at ch7?...

LOL..Nancy Snyderman! Just as I said here..she's now above all the rest of us as she decided 21 days was too boring and ...went out for soup in NY!..get this- she was in the car as she sent the cameraman WHO ALSO WAS IN QUARANTINE!..to walk among eaters oblivious, and pick up the soup!..lol Snyderman's answer? "As a medical professional I know I show no symptoms"..Agh! So,I guess I was right!

    1. Typical of most "medical professions" ... they think they're God.

      Hope she croaks.

    2. We are told by the CDC that you can't get ebola from someone who isn't symptomatic. That's all well and good, but we all know that sensation when you just start feeling ill with a flu bug(for example). What if that initial sense of malaise occurs when you are out and about in the world?..as in Dr. Snyderman and her cameraman? The initial onset of symptoms can occur anywhere. At that point, one would be symptomatic and shedding virus.

  2. Here's a question for you, Rich: what are the ratings for Night Beat? Surely you can find a mole to tell you that. Are they anywhere near KPIX's expectations? What *were* KPIX's expectations.

    1. You want some info? Here you go. Judge Mathis has higher ratings on KBCW then Night Beat. What does that tell you?

    2. That tells me maybe Veronica D L C shouldn't have turned down that barista job at Starbucks.

  3. I can't comment on the new SFGate site because I have yet to get it to load . Finally gave up.

    1. You might have to switch your browser out, to Google Chrome. I switched to Google Chrome, & it works excellent with sfgate, but the new format on sfgate still sucks...smh.

  4. SFGate locks up my computer, and I often have to restart my browser. It's slow. I am using a recent computer as well.

    1. I think there is a big story also now that browsers seem to never obey commands to "stop loading" or "Close" on many websites that have a slew of info gatherers like the infamous Ys Ting (something like that) that shows on every Google run website and places like the Huffington, the Mercury news..etc Its not like it used to be to surf.
Only the small independent websites using old software still work fast..
And speaking of the Mercury..terrible to navigate. And do they take things personal? I can't post on any sports columnists or beat writer...I mean,I can..but as soon as come back- even just to reload one second later- my comments are gone.
And let me end with how clever Google is...their websites freeze for me on IE or Mozilla..but work fine on Chrome. ALL that is except for -strangely- the Google search engine. Works great on any browser. Cant be an accident to any of the above.
Yes,I got in a few pet peeves on one post. Deal with it.

    4. That's right 237. Even as I clean your clock over and over.
      Deal with it.

  5. I no longer consider looking at SFGate. It's beyond a waste of my time.

  8. Sfgate freeze, more like a painful crawl.

  9. "SFGate is not responding."

    "SFGate is not responding"

    "SFGate is not responding.'

OK, I'll admit to having taken it 3 times. Beyond that, it would be MY fault to persist.

  10. I agree Debra Villalon is the best. She is everywhere it seems every night. I hope she survives the FOX management. In fact if they cut out the people on the 10 O'clock news, I will no longer watch it.

Bernie Ward should be home by now? What do you know?

Get with it. Christmas stuff started arriving in Costco stores after Labor Day!

  13. Christine - I know you count Bernie as a good friend, and have been an ardent supporter through all of his trials and tribulations (not that you support what he did - but you support him and his family as they try to resume a normal life-style). Your relationship with him and his family is - truly - none of anyone else's business. BUT - since this is a media blog - I think I speak for others when I say that we really really do not want him back on the air. (And perhaps he has no intention of even trying to go back on the air). Anyway. Peace.

    1. You may not want him back on the air but if he did return to the airwaves you will be listening, right? Expect an unprecedented jump in ratings for whatever local station takes that risk.

    2. Bernie has served his time and has paid for his errors. Therefore if he got another radio program, I would listen in. I enjoyed Bernie when he was on KGO.

  14. New sfgate doesn't bother me because the old one was way worse on my mobile. Sorry to hear Ibanez is leaving. Don't like sports much but he is the least annoying and most enaging of the bunch.

Gasia is on now hyperventilating about ebola. Put Claudine Wong on the evening news. She's a great reporter and anchor.

  15. Debra Villalon is a top-notch reporter. What a contrast between her and Azenith Smith!

    Or they're into self-sabotage.

  17. You should count yourself lucky that you've never had to work with Deb. Sometimes, I'm awakened at night by the screech of her voice in my head, then I realize it's just my broken radiator. And it's amazing when any of her reports actually do make it to air.

  18. Once a year Radnich lives up to his own hype. Today was the day as he grilled Gabe Kapler about the stupidity of FOX and FOX sports "hiding" the baseball playoffs from fans by using multichannels..some many don't get on their system. It was soooo nice to hear Kapler squirm..and then sink to insulting Radnich's mom. Ass.
MLB needs to get its head out of its ass..and go back to keeping the playoffs on two networks who have the stations to cover it. Radnich made a good point that FOX was more loyal to showing the Simpsons then MLB playoff games.
