  1. Awwww - now THAT's a heart-breaker! (They're prob'ly opening up a spot for Bernie Ward - I hear he'll be sprung soon)

  2. KGO management tired of seeing him wear a T-shirt to work.

    1. Oh, stop. That's a silly thing to say. It's radio work. It shouldn't matter what one wears, as long as it isn't some special occasion.

  3. Too bad. He was one of the few with anything worthwhile to listen to. But obviously this is not a program trait for KGO.

  4. John Batchelor to replace him. cannot understand why he was fired from the company all together when he did other things very well.

  5. Well, I am not happy about this, at all. Even though KGO is not the station it used to be, I enjoy listening to the weekend talk shows, and David is one of the hosts that I like, though he could have had a better time slot. We all knew that something like this was coming, and it happened a little later than expected, but I am disappointed that it was David. I hope that he'll be able to get hired at another station, if that's what he wants.

    1. Glad it was Weintraub. What next all nite to get Bloomberg the hell off of 810 now that it's here 24/7 on 960? A "best of Red Eye Radio?" It would be better than what's there now. No more New York time checks or New York sports and weathercasts. Karel's off running to his best friend, David G. Hall. That's a good sign. Karel is gone. I'm picking Bernie Ward back on Dec.13 somewhere in that lineup. In Karel's slot and five late nites a week. Yeah, that's the ticket. Almost done.

    2. Tough you don't like it with his being gone. No one listened and the barely 2 share shows it. Look for the numbers to go back to a 1.8 or lower in Dec. The poop will hit the fan as KGO continues to bleed and KSFO dies due to less local inventory with twice the non-paid national barter spots not going to KSFO but directly to Cumulus Media Sales.

      What is "his spot"?

    1. 10.22pm, We have been predicting Karels' ouster for over the last year. I think he's using the same type of thinly veiled threats that Sussman is using against being weeded out. I;m done holding my breath about the both of them. I just turn to other stations, and stay out of their cluttered back yards.

  8. He's better for it although he probably doesn't realize it right now. He should have been given a better time slot a long time ago. He and Karel were both so giving of their time at the debate and as a listener I really respected that. I hope he stays in the Bay Area or is online soon. Keep us posted.

    1. Why a better time slot? He was a New Jersey hack from NJ105.5. Nothing to see, move ahead. He sucked.

  9. Old news. Was reported here before Metheny died by three weeks that Weintraub was o-u-t. A suck up, like Mel Baker, and tried to get to close to Rene Bakos because that's where the keys to the closet are. So, who's next? Karel is up next. Craft will be gone for good unless KGO's new operations and programming people opt for a pet show featuring Craft on Sat. morning. Matt Ray isn't cutting it from Chico. John Hamilton will be out to pasture. The Chef Ryan Scott should be next in line to be gone. Jennifer Jones Lee has a target on her back -- and her gigglefest news. Maybe they'll team Bristow with Larry Van what's his name (formerly of KNX LA) -- Larry live in LA, Bristow here. The New York comedy queen may be gone, too, but probably not. Cumulus lets her play on WABC in between comedy bits. Maybe they'll move her to Karel's slot because he HAS to go.

Later, probably in January after the Dec. Nielsen's come out ... it might be either bye bye Thurston or she'll get moved to mid-morning if Cumulus can't keep the contract with Ronn alive any longer. In either case, Ronn will be out. Look for another female talk show -- now on a bunch of Cumulus stations -- "The Dana Show". Hot and damn good.

Bye bye Dave. So soon close to the wedding, too. Damn. That's what brown nosing with Lynn, Pat, Rene and "the silent - don't use my name" producer for Ronn gets you.

Going to be a long holiday on Hawthorne - just in time for that studio move in January where the screams will get louder.

    1. You must have the wrong guy. He and Renee hated each other and she's probably the one who got him fired. She got the job he should have had and he didn't get along with Owens either. He'll land on his feet but if he's smart he gets out of radio. Rich why don't you email him for the story kgodavid@gmail.com?

    2. Dear 11:19. I never talk about "pets". I don't think of companion animals as "pets". I did, last time I was on, discuss the fifty or so starving and abused Morgan Hill horses and the Santa Clara District Attorney's investigation of same. You'd be surprised how many KGO listeners and Bay area people care very much about that ongoing story. I also had the latest from Ferguson with the game changing forensics in that case, and a chill pill for ebola-hysterics. I do fill-in and I'm surprised that you think I do any regular shows.I must have made a big impression on you.

    3. Bngo! The operative words from your mouth, Christine -- "I must have made a big impression on you."

Not so much anymore. You're dull, so left it's clownish and arrogant plus so condescending. Your animal activism is a gift. I am discomforted when your ego gets wound up when you show it over human need. You're barely a utility player, just to keep that SAG-AFTRA card alive. Not because you're good as you once were. You're not.

Your rants here, in a world that proves that prog lib talk just doesn't work shows that you are so out of touch with people. Your "I must hare made an impression on you" days are long over. If you were a little more humble, maybe, but I doubt it.

I feel bad for you. It's understood that you pine for your friend, Bernie Ward, and it might be interesting to see how his experiences in Texas and Lompoc have not changed his worldview, but maybe his perception of liberalism a little in the last 7 years. You, in fact, might learn something.

Life is not the way you see it, Christine, nor how I see it, for that matter. It's about how we live it as individuals, not as "your" movement as the only thing going. It's not. The same for Karel, too.

You're nothing more than an old clown in the circus at your age and status, Christine. You're not relevant to the mainstream as you once were. Yet, you continue to ram that tripe down everyone's throat.

Incidentally, you are wrong about ratings technology. You help or hurt whomever you "fill-in" for in this PPM rating measurement. Why? Because the machine doesn't give a damn who you are. As a result, you're only as good as the show YOU do for the person you're filling in. Bad show, Christine, people, believe it or not, turn your happy ass right off. That, coupled with how well or the not the person you fill-in for, well, so goes the battle. According to the latest Nielsen's - KGO is pulling an abysmal 2.1 share -- up from a historically low 1.5. A shake up always causes new sampling and, often, more losses.

You, Ms. Christine, carry the same old-age mantra that kept KGO sitting on it's laurels under Jack Swanson and Trish Robbins. The station was "The Mighty Wurlitzer" for over 30 years. That is, until advertisers said that KGO's audience was too old and the station to stale and "in place" from years of heady and well-deserved success.

The problem is, neither KGO nor you, Christine, kept up with the changing mores and times with the new technology of PPM measurement electronically, the house of cards fell down. Could Mickey Luckoff have saved it? Yes. Did he have the chance to do so? Yes. Not until the end was near did the walls move in on him, too. A lesser influence by AM radio and the fact that you and KGO did not adapt to change, but rather got enveloped by it. You and Karel are the epitome of what makes KGO so bad today. Pat Thurston, if she wasn't so sickeningly syruppy, at least has an often interesting slant to her liberalism.

You don't For that, I am sorry.

Best to you and Bernie. Don't try to re-doctrinate him. Many would be interested in his new perspective on living free again come December 13. You - not so much. Thanks for the good years. The "CBS Sports Spectacular" is long over, Christine. Discourse to sound like a hack radio personality which you've become, while being out of touch with the times. Move on, Christine. You have nothing left to see here.

    4. Weintraub still, I know first hand, was the consumate ass kisser - to Rene's face. Talked behind her back You bet. He thought they had "similar experience, " her being a board op producer and researcher guest lister for Huckabee and over at Premiere Networks for Clear Channel. Then, she drifted back to SF to take on the world as "executive producer" because she knows PPM strategy and talk element formatting.

      That's all.

That and being cheap to hire after Cumulus didn't need her on a national basis. To her face, however, he found lots of stories and licked up her methods while bad mouthing her behind her back and that was all she wrote. Metheny was all over it with Weintraub with Rene's "conferences" and Owens didn't have any use for Weintraub whatsoever, but David didn't get the memo.

Also, first hand knowledge, if Karel had it to do all over again, he shut the webcam mike off, shut his freaking mouth during breaks and quit his pity parties on his stream. Escaraga wanted to bounce him, but the timing "wasn't right" and Cumulus found him expendable but other troubles came first. Metheny, on the other hand, used to watch "the entertainer" from Detroit and while saying what Karel thought he heard what Metheny said about "liking us", the opposite was true. Anything to keep the stress level down for the moment as the deck chairs were being arranged. Karel knew it, too, even back with Deidra left KGO, bitched at Ron E. about Karel and Karel admitted he knew he was as good as out the door.

As Sam Coooke once said, "A change is gonna come." Karel is just one of several penciled in. A little late for David G. Hall to save him now. He's toast. Soon, one less producer to pay, as well with Brian. Won't be needed where that weekend shift is headed once voided of the red carpet motorcycle on loan boy Also, keep the name "Darla" in mind. Coming soon to a Cumulus station near you. It's good to have friends in high places. .

    1. Hence, your difficulty in perception. The past is over. Yesterday is gone. Walter Cronkite is dead and so are many others. Today is today. Live it and move on. Reminders of good old days make you that; seeing the old, not the present or the future. Old days is not just for time. They are a base of where we are now, now what we lived to get here.

  11. Was he escorted out of the building by security the way they escorted out Gene Burns? I heard Weintraub's first show and then caught him on and off since. I never noticed any improvement. I still recall the time he came onto Rich's blog to rant about how good he was going to be blah blah blah. Came across as an arrogant know it all. I'm hoping this doesn't mean they're replacing him with those two bimbos! Btw Rich, any insight as to whether this decision was made by Metheny and it is now being carried out? Perhaps he left behind notes?

  12. He was a lot better these days than that first show. When he came on the blog he was a total asshole and I don't think I ever let that go but I never thought about it when i heard him on the air. The last show I heard he subbed for Maureen and I thought it was really good. He was on too late and was destined to get cut by cheaper programming. Who the hell listens to the radio on Friday and Saturday night?

I'd like to know how they fired him too if he was escorted out or if he was able to say goodbye to people.

  13. 2:14...I can't imagine why you would ever listen to something that you so dislike. Are you a masochist? Just listen to something else and save yourself all that deep angst. I understand that you despise anything that isn't young, new and unsuccessful. You are going to be so disoriented when this country elects a woman president who is my age. You'll be bleating, "She's not relevant!!". No one will hear you.

  14. Let's face it. KGO has been awful ever since the blood bath of December 2011. I posted that fact on KGO's facebook page. Some idiot from KGO said the station was better now than it has ever been. I have been a listener of KGO since I was a little kid back when Les Crane, Jim Dunbar and Ira Blue were on the air there. I can't believe what these idiots at Cumulus have done to the station. I think the marching orders for the weekend hosts are to keep the topics light and boring. What made them think that all news during the week was going to be interesting?
