Breaking: Layoffs at KPIX; Update

 KPIX layoffs ...

I'm hearing from a source it just broke late Wednesday and there's several Pixers who received pink slips. Must be quite a scene at Hunan.

It's across the board too, apparently concentrated to mostly off-air personnel.

Nevertheless something major has gone down at 855 Battery. We're on it.

UPDATE: 9/11 --10:01 AM

I'm hearing it's editors --tape/online video editors who received pink slips from KPIX on Wednesday.

I'll update if I hear anything else.

  1. Maybe the Night Beat production and director crew plus writers were axed. They sure needed to be for that fiasco.

  2. Is Roberta Gonzalez still on the payroll there? If so, she should be FIRST IN LINE to get axed!!!!

  3. Miss Schertz' salary has to come from somewhere and since the new revenue from NightBeat never materialized somebody has to go. I doubt it's the right people since it never is.

    1. Who in the hell is Miss Schertz? Enlighten us so we don't think you're dropping acid on Haight.

  4. Probably the extra people they hired for their new stupid Gen X newscast. Did they actually talk with their target demo about what they might want to see in a newscast before starting this pig? Doubt it. That'd be too intelligent.

    1. Gen Y aka the millennials. I wouldn't expect Gen U'ers to get that.

  5. Yes, it's editors, and it happened on Monday.

  6. I used to freelance at the "Big Four" stations back in the 90's. I was always amazed--and grateful--at the sheer number of editors. Some days I recall editing three or four VO's or VOSOT's per DAY!

Nowadays...with photogs editing their own stuff out in the field...I can see why KPIX is letting go of editors. There's probably not enough editing to go around???

  8. What is it that so many people are anti-Roberta? At least she "reads" the weather in a more interesting way than the BLAND way regular meteorologists do!! By BLAND, I mean I might just as well read the print version online or in the paper than listen to it.

    1. She belongs on QVC. If you need to be told, you probably won't ever get it.
