Ask Rich Lieberman; Kate Scott Is a Complete Zero; The 49ers and NFL Are King; Monday Round-Up

 Monday Ask Rich Lieberman...

There's lots to talk about and much of it is local...Kate Scott: a complete zero with more dumb and innocuous sweet nothings --a woman who says NOTHING! Gotta love her complete nothingness on the dumb morning program...Yeah, I saw the football games on Sunday and watched the Ray Rice video --I'm not at all shocked --are you? ...The bars and restaurants were packed around the Marina on Sunday--who cares about football players behavior off the field and guess what? Surprise: every woman I saw had a 49ers jersey on or some gear. The NFL is still KING and even guys who hit their girlfriends or not, they don't seem to care, ho hum, beat the Cowboys!...There's LOTS to explore, fire away.

  1. You're giving kate scott a lot of credit. She's less than zero, she's a negative.

Whenever an interesting guest or caller is on Radnich, she has to jump in with her ADHD and complain about them being boring, and can we move on. Then she bores us with some non-comment, or some aside about her wife.

KNBR should confine her to traffic only, or drop her.

    1. No, KNBR is clueless. They think that by putting Scott on they're providing a brownie point for the "woman card." So Scott will continue to waddle on even though, as you point out, she not only ruins the program, she has ZERO to say and whenever she says anything of significance, it's muted out because she's so god awful.

  2. oh rich, enough already you old blowhard. I just heard Kate on knbr claiming that "some people" are turned off by what has transpired and the fact is she's 100% correct. just because most people do not care means little. she's accurate and Larry sounded like a moron.

besides, is this really worthy of a separate blog post Monday at 9 am? you must be running out of guesses.

    2. Kate and Larry are polar opposites on air. Kate is very careful with almost everything she says, never overextending herself on subject matter. Her opinions are reasonable, and by nature, usually uninteresting.

Larry is a borderline shock jock. He is passionate about subjects, often taking controversial positions. He will overreach on subjects, discussing things he's not adequately knowledgeable about. He is provocative, making him more interesting.

      Delete
    3. No, kate is NOT reasonable. She will try and emulate Gary with his shouting schtick; she will call interesting callers or guests "boring" or "old" (someday she'll meet her rockin' chair...); she will at times proudly proclaim herself as a boor who prefers to get drunk rather than think.

You are correct about one thing, kate scott is uninteresting.

  5. Anything or anyone that keeps Radnich from bloviating is fine by me...third wheel is a tough role for anyone when combined with those two.

I don't even notice the wife comments...btw, as much as Radnich and Larry talk about their wives/families, she can't do the same?

    2. Anything that keeps LARRY from bloviating is a good thing. I'm pretty sure Larry talks more than Gary. Larry tries to force his opinions on listeners, contesting and shutting out opposing viewpoints. Gary is open minded, allowing for discussion.

Gary is the one always talking about his family. I practically never hear Kate discussing her wife.

Rich Lieberman posted February 18, 2010 at 8:38 PM:

". . . Sussman is a hate-filled nothing, a Glenn Beck wannabee who is about as credible as my socks. At the end of the day, it's pretty much a lower-paid nothing that suits Citadel [then owner] better. As bad as Rodgers was, at least he had an iota of talent--"SussMAN" is a total fraud."

Marking the 2010 takeover of Lee Rodgers' position, you pegged Sussman as the flagrant opportunist and no-talent that he remains today. Given KSFO ratings and on-air embarrassment, it was projected here last June and July that the Sussman/Green fiasco was top priority for Cumulus to eliminate within a 90-day time frame.

Now in September 2014, despite expectations and predictions to the contrary, why does this "fraud" continue to host the "KSFO Morning Show"?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because in the current pecking order Sussman is the only local show on KSFO's weekday line-up and Cumulus either hasn't pulled the plug because they don't have a replacement yet or they're waiting to the end of the year when by then, he's gone.

      Delete
    2. Spencer wasn't fired from KSFO. My bet is he'll replace Sussman unless they can find some other blowhard who has no connection to the Bay Area. Maybe Chef Ryan can do it?

      Delete
    3. Oh, because he said he "quit?" I don't buy that, maybe they made a deal in which he might fill in but I doubt it.

He lobbied for the job he "quit" for several months--I doubt he's on their list to eventually replace Sussman. Just a hunch.

Related to above question/comment, what is Sussman's connection to "friend and mentor" Mark Levin?

Pecking order aside, there must be an underlying reason for retention of such a tasteless morning menu. Contrast Barbara Simpson and Spencer Hughes, who disappeared within a week.

When Radnich said that Mike Sams was "toxic" and nobody wanted a gay player?..she said nada..not a word. Not one. When you see her light up that she got a free meal? or that VIP treatment from "ChowderHouse"....thats somebody who caved in to money and ..sort of fame.
At least Dibley would call down Radnich with a simple "Bad take Gary"..when Radnich would say people with cancer should shouldn't talk about it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hey Rich- in retrospect, do you really believe that Cumulus made a bad move cutting all of their talk show hosts? I mean, they saved a ton of money by getting rid of those old guys, most of whom where over the hill, boring, and were bringing in few ratings, and the people who were listening were old folks who aren't part of the 'young demographic' that Radnich is always talking about radio coveting.

I mean, who among those who were fired (Gross, Rothman, Taliaferro, Burns, etc) would you have kept on? I listened from time to time to all of those shows and I found them all both bad and boring as far as radio programming.

I'd much rather listen to Jon and Jen do the morning news, or Bret and Nicki anchor the afternoon, then hear the likes of some of those over-the-hill talk show hosts. What's your take? I respect your opinion, because you know a lot about what's going on and you seem to appreciate broadcasting, even though you've never worked full time in the profession.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. How's that new business model working now? Yeah, the genius of Cumulus.

Even as they, (KGO), rebrand now, I said back then and today that a simple tweak was all that was needed--new, younger voices, more vibrant subject matter and getting rid of the clutter, that's all that was needed.

Instead they just shot the dog and now have an albatross station that literally can't give away free commercials to attract advertisers.

Your last sentence is wrong as I worked fulltime at K101, Mutual, but why let facts get in the way of a good question.

      Delete
    2. To show brilliance to this darkness, KGO, Cumulus and Jared Hart already tried that "simple tweak" with younger voices like Montemayor, Karel, Chef Scott, Ethan Bearman, David Weintraub, Casey Bartholomew, Mo' Langdon, the two broads, the two guys from a few weeks ago, Matt Ray and others long forgotten. That didn't save the sinking ship - and won't. As for "more vibrant subject matter," you're right. They brought in the young Rene Bakos to make her PPM knowledge work on a format that hasn't worked since she's been there.

Don't forget that "young" and non-local, Dallas based news team from Radiate, Inc. in Dallas. They still do horrid news, traffic and weather four times an hour. They are cheap, grant you. Subject matter? Can't do it from scanning the newspaper headlines. Doing after bombing producing the likes of Mike Huckabee and Savage as well as Ronn Owens who's doing what's put in front of him isn't the way to do it. A proven fact. There is no cohesion going on at the AM 810. Young people hate it or they known little to like on AM radio. Period.

Metheny isn't helping. He's reading email from Atlanta with orders, tweeting to his friends in Detroit all the time and flying back and forth not listening to the radio station's poor execution. Same for KSFO. Now, they'll go all satellite outside of Sussman and Green. "Like lstening to the All Star Game of conservative talk radio" starting the 28th of Sept.

      Yeah, right.

      Delete
    3. I agree Gil Gross is boring, and although he was better on KGO I never really warmed up to his show, but he did do some good shows. Talifarero was an acquired taste, I was rarely awake when he was on, so I didn't listen, except when he talked about jazz. Gene Burns was hardly ever boring, at times he would pick a subject I didn't care for, but usually his intellect, his knowledge, and his interaction with the callers, made his show very interesting.
John Rothmann was and is (the rare times he is heard these day)
a close second. If you think Rothmann and Burns was boring, I guess you don't care about well informed, intelligent hosts, who interact well with the callers? Who do you like? Savage, his screamed and extreme skewing of the truth. Hannity? he is a simpleton, not a great thinker. There are still good hosts, Thurston, Christine, on the national level Bill Press (he is no longer on in the Bay Area), but we don't get to hear them very often.

Apparently 'someone' cares since the poster boy was just sent packin', albeit too late. The woman in the video was knocked out, left unconscious and later dragged around like garbage. That punch could've easily killed her. Whether "NFL is still king" or not, what happened on the video is about more than football.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kate Scott's take was barely sentient today. We were all appalled at what Ray Rice did but people didn't stop watching the NFL when Michael Vick tortured dogs, Rothlisberger allegedly manipulated women, Ray Lewis was allegedly involved in a murder, Kobe was very likely involved in a rape and I wonder how many folks threw away his jersey? Her opinion was so over the top it was ridiculous because she got some tweets. Even a few hundred tweets withe people saying they're done with the NFS is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to TV ratings. Heck, Ray Lewis is part of the ESPN team these days.

I watched a little of the NFL Monday Night preview show and Chris Carter and Keyshawn Johnson voiced their shame at Rice's actions, as did many current and past NFL players, but to say that millions of fans, even thousands, aren't going to follow their team and watch the NFL is ludicrous.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Kate Scott is first of all, a clown who is barely adequate at doing traffic reports. As Rich mentioned, she's vanilla; she adds NOTHING to the Radnich /Krueger show except her annoying little opinions which really don't amount to much. KNBR hired her because she came cheap and was doing the traffic reports already. If she were a guy, she never would have made it, but because she's 1.) a woman and 2.) happens to be gay, they killed two birds with one stone bringing her on.

  24. This is an absurd take. Kate Scott's take about how her wife was wondering whether or not a certain player was the one involved in the domestic abuse situation was completely fine, and coherent. She said nothing outlandish, and was pretty spot on: there are people who are very bothered by the NFL's handling of these situations. She didn't suggest people weren't watching because her wife was in fact WATCHING!

For whatever reason this website's commentators and it's author want to take shots at Scott. I have nothing against her at all. I think Larry is pretty lame, and Gary is like the uncle you'd probably avoid. In no way is Kate some super talent. All that said, it's no worse than the rest of their programming, and today's take(s) were no worse than so many others.

    1. Agree 6:04. I don't listen to the show at all any more but if I had to choose, I would rather hear Scott than either of the clowns she works with.

    2. The reason why we critique kate scott is because of the "love me some me" attitude she displays constantly. If an interesting and funny caller like the "Howard Cosell in Heaven" guy calls in, and is entertaining folks, little miss self-centered has to jump in and say how boring he is, or how it's time to move on. Presumably so she can talk about how she loves to drink and support her team.

As has also been noted, she keeps her gig because she's gay, and KNBR thinks that helps in this market, and folks like 6:04 will get riled if we critique her lack of ability or entertainment factor. Because to have any negative opinions about the LBGTOMG set is verbotten around here...

      Delete
    3. you think she keeps her gig because she's a lesbian? do you think there's this massive gay sports market that knbr and the game are fighting for?

you don't have a clue. most people aren't as bothered by the programming as the people here. it's much more passive.

  25. There is one common element between the two Rays (Rice and McDonald) that has nothing to do with race, "thug" lifestyle, or even the increase of domestic violence. One common thread - Harbaughs. These brothers are both type A driven "leaders" who believe in winning at any cost. When the brothers were competing in the Super Bowl, the background stories about their familial competition were almost bordering on dysfunction, spearheaded by there father who supported his boys constant competition. If the two Rays were biological children of the Harbaugh coaches, the phrase "the apple does not fall from the tree" would be bantered about. Well, perhaps the arrogance, self-centered warrior mentality of certain football coaches doesn't get left behind in the locker room after a game...?

In referring to the "thug culture," it's clear you're speaking of them, so there's no need to mask what you really are by cowering behind the phony qualifier that your words have "nothing to do with race or ethnicity."

      Delete
    7. No sniveling, and the commentary is not about all blacks, nor is it specific to blacks. Congratulations though, for showing your own inner racism, by trying to make it about just blacks. It is about thug culture, no matter the color, and I've noted that many times, as have others. I don't care if a thug is black white or brown; I don't care if their drug of choice is meth, crack, alcohol or a combination therof; if someone is a low down thug, someone who likes behaving like a territorial (and usually rabid) animal, then they're a thug. No matter the color.

And rap music (as enjoyed by whites as well as blacks, as noted by someone trying to detract from my points) is a massive incubator and celebrator of thug culture. Deal with it, it's reality.

Here's another bit of reality you will need to deal with sooner or later. YOU"RE the racist.

This is clearly intentional. I wonder if co-hosting with Krueger while Radnich was on break had anything to do with it. Maybe her on-air talk is regulated to conform with her pay and position on the show. She isn't an official co-host, as her name isn't in the title of the show. She talked a lot when she filled in as a co-host, so now she must offset it by talking less. Get it?

  33. It's very sad that so many young African Americans are enamored with the 'thug culture,' which is a culture of losers and a total failure, and one of the reasons why inner cities are this country's cancer wards. The rap 'music' if you want to call it that, It is NOT music, but rather poorly written rhymes that use harsh and limited language, and objectify women and people in general. There is no music, and certainly whatever this angry urban poetry represents, it does not represent love, peace or hope, but rather misogyny and failure. This whole phenomena started in the early 1980s and it absolutely astonishes me how such lousy 'art' (if you want to call rap that), could have lasted so long. I guess that's a testament to the poor taste of people in this country when it comes to music. The fact that suburban white kids want to embrace this losing, tattoo-festooned, baggy clothes wearing culture shows you how void of anything there is for so many of them. The thing that would be funny, (if it weren't so sad!) is when I see some young man wearing baggy pants that fall halfway past his butt-crack. That style of wearing your clothes comes directly from prison. The person who wears that type of style in prison is known as a 'strawberry,' and is someones 'bitch,' (property). If only these kids also knew how that, I don't think they would wear their clothes that way. It's also very negative and disrespectful when to African Americans when they use the word: 'Nigg…' to describe another black person. You never heard ANY African American use that kind of word before 1980. They would say things such as "How are you my brother?" Or "how are you sister?" Not "how are you nigh..?'
