Flash: Assistant ND at KGO-TV Adrouny Splits Down The Way To San Jose at NBC Bay Area

Stephanie Adrouny KGO-TV Assistant News Director, Stephanie Adrouny, is headed down south to NBC Bay Area, (KNTV), in San Jose to take over the same position. She will succeed Matt Goldberg, who left for KNBC in LA.

The news was confirmed to the Channel 7/KGO newsroom by ND, Tracey Watkowski late Monday night in an e-mail.

This will be a coming home for Adrouny who spent time at KNTV in 2002.

In the early analysis, don't read too much into this transaction although like everything else there could be a valid reason Adrouny is splitting: the coming Disney axe at KGO. She very well may have been on that list.

We'll explore.

  1. Poor KNTV. What did they do to deserve her?

    1. Your sources are out of touch and tired. I’m weary from reading personal opines that reflect nothing other than bad feelings over holiday vacation requests. This is one of the greatest losses KGO-TV will suffer. Adrouny is kind yet firm, highly competent but always open to discussion; skilled in virtually every aspect of a newscast and station brand. There are few who can claim such competence. She leads those that need leading and lets others flourish in their expertise. A manager extraordinaire. When there is nothing to criticize other than how old she looks in a picture, you can only guess at the depth of her character, her skill set and professionalism. KNTV should rejoice. Don’t run and hide. Open your arms and covet KGO’s misfortune.

    2. In complete agreement with you @9:47. Have worked with her, and would happily do so again. Some strange, and completely out of the loop responses here.

    3. "This is one of the greatest losses KGO-TV will suffer" ...thanks for the melodramatic bump!

Where was this leadership and competency with inane personnel changes, odd anchor moves, 4pm newscast search for relevancy and consistent tone, Heather Ishimaru problems, standing up to Tracey W.'s antics and bullying of newsroomers, etc?

If these were not her in her sphere of responsibilities, then what was?

  2. Is that her high school senior picture? How old is she? We are supposed to trust an ND who looks like she just received her AA degree from the local junior college?

  3. Does this mean Heather Ishimaru's lawyers will not be able to find her to serve the suit?

  4. Pretty funny. Her only LinkedIn recommendation is as an on-air style consultant.

  5. She's nice, smart, youngish and competent. Another loss for KGO. To NBC11 no less.

  6. Whether she's good or not is besides the point. This is another Kevin Keeshan hire. The man is loyal to the people he hired/promoted at channel 7. It's hard to find that in an era where everything is being done with less for less with people who don't have the experience. A tip of the cap to Kevin for staying loyal to his people because the vast majority of TV managers are selfish jerks who are nothing more than hustlers in suits.

  7. Stephanie is a lightweight. Disney dumped Keeshan and he's hiring no talent castoffs. That's one reason why KGO will always rock, and KNTV will always suck. Tracey is next after she dumps Cheryl and Spencer.

  8. Should not she have been hired to run Nightbeat?

  9. Stephanie Adrouny is the heart and brains of KGO. She has dedicated herself to being a strong leader, a kind & fair manager and an example of the best of this business. Anyone who thinks otherwise is out of touch, as witnessed by the tears in the newsroom and the long line of people who waited to say goodbye. It is easy to see why KGO did not want to see her go and why KNTV wanted her enough to convince her to leave.

    1. Assistant ND as a "leader?"

...or, KGO did not want to do enough to keep her
