Saturday Bitch Session; Time To Get It Off Your Chest And Vent

You're mad as hell and you're not going to take it anymore...You have a beef with your favorite TV News anchor...You wanted to let the mattress man in the morning know how you feel...you're going to the debate and you're not a shill, whatever, go ahead and air your love, your anger, your frustration, go for it as they say and get it off your chest.

  1. Why is it that KNBR 680/1050 after 10 pm runs Scott Ferrell on both stations? He's barely tolerable on one. Can't they re-run two hours of John Feinstein or find some other CBS network programming during the day that they didn't run that doesn't appeal solely to knuckledraggers?

    1. Agreed, Ferrell is just plain awful on even one station, definitely unnecessary on two. ANYTHING else would be preferable.

  2. A recent spot on CSNBA that referred to Amy G as an "Ace Reporter." That had the same effect as a shot of ipecac.

    1. Amy G is the next Cronkite. Did you see her work with The Cookie Monster?

    2. Yes. The Cookie Monster was more articulate.

  3. I wonder if it was worth it to kgo to make $700 on this debate? Embarrassing they're charging people. Cumulus is a joke when it comes to programming talk/news.

    1. They aren't making $700. The KGO listeners are paying $3800 for rent of the theatre. KGO is paying for the limo down and back and "maybe" a light dinner for the particiants. The talent, except maybe for Ronn, gets nothing to perform, hence, why Karel is not doing his regular show Sunday, though he was told to from San Francisco and turned it down out of "principle." KGO advertisers will also be paying for the commercials.

      Delete
    2. What principle? If he cares so much being paid (which he does and for which I don't really blame him) he should have said he'd do his regular show from home (paid) and begged off the "debate" (unpaid) with a lame excuse such as back injury prevents him from flying.

Speaking of money, Karel told his "syndicated" audience on Friday that he gets paid $400 per show, compared to the $750 he got before his 2008 firing. Also, he said that KGO gets $100 per commercial in his show and that there are 38 spots, thus making his show very profitable for the station.

      Delete
    3. One more thing, Karel also ragged on management for not feeding the "talent" anything more than refreshments during the four hours (12 - 4) that they'll be there. He then went on to appeal to any local merchants to bring free food (pizza, subs, whatever) to the theater.

      Delete
    4. You're all assuming he show gets sold!

      No chance!

There will be line 200 people there tops! Half not paying. They've not sold a single spot for this thing. $3800? Please! !!

      Delete
    5. Karel is a liar. He gets $275 per show. He received $400 the first time at KGO. I know this because I occasionally filled out his time sheets.

    6. The cost of advertisements covers way more than paying cry-baby hosts. A 50kw ERP transmitter takes quite a bit of power. Plus, you also have to pay for all of the sales and support personnel (salespeople usually get a cut of the sales they make) and keeping the lights on at the studio. This isn't a "not for profit" business, either. If he doesn't like it, he can open up his own radio station or do his show over the internet. There, he can keep it all. Alternative to that, he could get a real job, like the rest of us, that doesn't pay ~$50-65/hour just to sit on your butt and talk.

      Delete
    7. AM radio transmitters do not use ERP to describe power. The use "direct" power, so, 50,000 watts is just that. ERP is used on FM radio because of the frequency spectrum. It is also ERP for both vertical and horizontal antenna aspects of TV as well.

  4. OK, let me get this one off my chest.. ABC 7 News playing that fucking "Turn Around" Fiber One commercial over and over and over and over and over. What did they give General Mills-Six hundred thousand bonus fucking spots??? Jesus Christ, I'm about to bitch slap the television screen with a "Flo" doll.....

    1. I agree. That commercial (Fiber One) and Kars For Kids make me want to buy a gun and start a war or something. On the real I turn down the volume until those spots are over.

  7. I agree with first post that Ferrell on both stations is just terrible. I also didn't know Damn Bruce was doing CBS Sports weekends on KNBR. How embarrassing! I'd rather listen to Ferrell's annoying voice than Feinstein's drivel any day of the week though. KNBR needs new life blood. 95.7 isn't all that impressive, and I think their current lineup is probably the best one they've had but between both stations there's no show I need to hear. I actually miss Ralph. Never thought I'd say that in my life.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Cumulus will spring only for regular security as provided. This isn't about war for god's sake. It's a stupid debate that costs $8.10 plus $1.44 in "extra fees." It's with a bunch of lightweights. Be lucky if 50 people actually pay to get in. Anything else is because they could sell tickets and had to give them away for free. There are only 475 seats and 5 wheelchair spaces.

Who you going to boo for? Ken Burkhart? The debate's not with KGO management. They won't care or listen. They just to put on a chickenshit show for three hours.

  10. My beef is with all local anchors and that beef is: Why is it so hard to find out the actual age of mostl of these anchors, reporters and news persons? It's as though it is sacred or something.

    Rich,

You will have a interesting column if you publish the ages of these people.

    1. 1;39 PM Sorry Pal, but you don't have the 'need to know' about certain dates of birth for the news anchors. You will not be allowed to find that out. Nobody wants to be typecast as 'over the hill" just because they're over 35. People are living and staying active longer these days, so we may need to rewrite the definitions of words "young and old'....Next thing, you'll be asking what their BMI or body weight or the size of their (Hammond) organs.....I leave you with one old riddle; How much does a Henway? Oh, about five pounds. (Moving Man type of joke).

    2. Agreed. And real names. That blog posting would be one of the most popular ever to hit this blog.

    3. Who cares 2:10? Why the age fetish? Have you tried a google search? You'd be surprised what you'll find. Don't be so nosy and so lazy. Nobody cares. There to do a job, period. What's your age? :

    4. Real names is none of your business, either. Stage or professional names are very common in radio and TV. Why does it matter to do and why is it your business?

    5. @2:10, if you are going tell an old joke or riddle it would be best if you would not butcher it.

    1. All I want for Christmas is Barbara Simpson on the Bay Area Terrestrial Radio doing a four part interview with Sharyl Attkisson (a former CBS reporter recently fired for reporting how our Ambassdor to Syria was abandoned by Obama and who repeated calls for better security were ignored by Hillary, then lied about by Susan Rice who continues as a Paid Liar of the White House to this day.

    2. Keep looking. Isn't going to happen.

    3. I was not a fan of Barbara but the idiot who they replaced her with is vying for the worst host award on Bay Area radio. On a positive note we don't have to hear that big mouth Ethan Bearman down here in Monterey via KSCO since he moved to KSFO. It appears he reads 415 Media since he stopped elongating his words after he was called out on it right here a few weeks back. Still sucks!

      Delete
    4. 3:30 all you need for Christmas is a globe..Syria and Libya are different places. good luck.

      Delete
    5. I listened to Ethan Bearman a little yesterday, as far as I could tell he still elongated his words, perhaps a little less, never the less, his tone of voice even when he does not elongate words, still comes off as talking down to people, like a teacher talking to little kids, so it is still annoying, makes me think he does not know his audience, or perhaps Cumulus is hoping he will attract a younger (and less intelligence) audience than Barbara Simpson did. As for the worst host award I'm sorry to say several hosts could be in the running for that, such as: Sussman, Frosty, Gil Gross, the 2 guys who replaced Randi Rhoades (Joel Riddell and Corey something). Sad, Sad state of affairs for Bay Area radio.

Funny how you keep listening to Ethan even though you can't stand him. Your fingers don't work?
I think he is an intelligent, young voice on radio with a new take on things. I like that he focuses on local issues, unlike so many others. Although, he is too damn conservative for me...

      Delete
    7. @10:45 aka Ethan, thanks for checking in. I listened for 10 minutes and switched the channel for good. The fact that you're young means nothing. What matters is whether you're good and you're not. Same old conservative dribble. Just constant whining and complaining. Booooring!

      Delete
  12. I think it unfair that Karel pouts about no pay and no expenses, yet, participates in the debate and goes home in Long Beach, not doing a Sunday show. Langan, as much as I dislike her, does the debate and goes back to KGO to work Sunday night.

Weintraub won't be at the debate until 3 pm for an hour only, then goes back to KGO to "fill-in" bor the big baby "entertainer." Cumulus has NO control over its talent whatsoever.

Last night, Weintraub only got two calls in two hours and they were both in the last ten minutes of his boring show.

The station has not only lost its way, it's lost all credibility. Whining gets you the night off and makes everyone else fill in or do their regular shifts. Amazing.

  14. The only thing I can think of is I wish KTVU would stop covering to death that "Mystery Millionaire" hidden cash guy. Enough, already. It's the most over-saturated hype since Batkid a couple months ago. Since they've finally unmasked this guy maybe the worst of it is over, but here's yet another story, like Batkid, that the Bay Area's News Station beat into the dirt and it's really nothing.

This drama queen opened his show by complaining that KGO will not provide food backstage for the hosts. He said only drinks will be available and then he had the gall to request that someone in the audience who happens to own a pizza or burger joint to bring hungry hosts some food ha ha!

  18. This is my beef: Its been known since "jumpstreet" that the current location of the Santa Clara NFL Stadium would have an issue with Parking, & Traffic. The local elected Santa Clara Officials knew this, the current Ownership knew it, and the residents of Santa Clara knew this....

Why in the Hell isn't our local Media asking, "Then why in the hell did you build a stadium in Santa Clara when you knew that Parking & Traffic would be an Issue???" After all the option at HP in SF had Parking surrounding the Stadium as far as the eye could see???

The Bottomline is that Santa Clara Elected Officials, the Ownership of the 49ers knew about the lack of parking, and yet Commissioner Goodell gave the green light for this project to move forward. When they all knew Parking was Lacking! Ownership said that tailgating was the main reason they left the City, because the game day experience was important for "their" fans. Yeah right...lie to us again?!
