State of the Stations, Valentine's PM Ender; Happy Hour Friday Round-Up

Friday Wash and Valentine's Day Wrap ...

*Harmony at KPIX. Good ratings. Unusual camaraderie amongst the ranks. Newsroom peace and love and respect...for the moment. Even the interns are hooting. The Old Ship has to be positively delirious.

*KGO-TV: Outside of the bizarre length of time it's taken to get the lights re-tooled, (thus, why all the newscasts have come from the newsroom), relative calm. Lately, I'm told, the ND, her highness and her underling have been remarkably humble and "nice." Wonderful. Maybe it'll set a trend.

KNTV: Thank God for the Olympics! The NBC San Jose O and O has been getting extra-mucho numbers thanks to the Sochi extravaganza. That has meant the usual great lead-ins for Raj and Jessica. And even the "Investigative Team" --advantage Susko over Kovaleski and Stock.

*KRON: Outright hostility and anxiousness as the countdown to 900 Front begins--still probably a year away, at the earliest. The regulars trudge forward and do the best they can. Pam Moore, by the way, you're new, old look is a high five.

*KTVU: Please tell the GM and ND to breathe a little easier. Atlanta is suddenly happy with your offerings but the bottom line is still the same--rumors persist that you're being put up on the market eventually. That price has got to be too high, at least for now. Be nice to Rob Roth.

  1. On those radio commercals with the blind guys speaking. I'm still trying t figure out what warrants playing these commericals about 65 times every single day. What are they selling? If we want public information on helping blind people, fine, but there has got to be more to it. Somebody is shelling out all that money for repeating those two ads. My guess is they want you to come to the site, so they can fill your website with their special made, unrequested coookies. I refuse to take a peep.

Re; TrueCar ads. How soon will the Hollerin Girl be replaced, the one doing the voice-overs. She sound as though she is trying to out yell somebody or arguing with intent to prevent anyone else from talking. Send her to voice training, if you-all like her so damn much.

    1. The blind commercials are paid for by a pharmaceutical company, which has a new drug to help people sleep. Non 24 primarily afflicts the blind who cannot easily distinguish day from night. Same thing happens with people who cross multiple time zones on a daily or semi-daily basis. Stations like the ads. Pharmaceutical companies have lots of money.

    2. Thanks for letting us know what those are about! Like Anon3:20, I've practically got them memorized. It took me weeks to even figure out it was not "You've got 924".

    3. If it's for a sleep drug, it's funny they wouldn't vary up their ads and promote that. How many people are blind or are going blind? A small percentage. Seems like they'd reach more people just promoting the drug. Until the second ad appeared a week or so ago, I thought the first guy was saying 9-2-4. In any case, it is a very unusual ad and I wonder how many people go to their site? Is there some reason why they only use blind guys for the ads?

  2. Why is it that so much content on this blog looks like a men's magazine from the 1950's?

We know Rich loves living in the past and it seems like his views on woman are a throwback as well. Why this adolescent obsession with portraying woman in this way?

    2. Why? I ask why not? If it's hurting anyone, it's only Rich and it's his blog to chose what to do with.

Bottom line is if Rich started a PG or X rated sub blog, it would get more hits...even from the smug intellectual types.

Regarding KPIX, they sunk to a new low while covering the hoax amber alert this week. They said something to the effect " if you have any knowledge of the situation, call KPIX...or 911(mumbled)". If I'm ever stuck in a jam, I don't want the cops watching kpix for a sole rescue tip. I want 911 hearing the tip from the horses mouth.

    3. Who cares what Rich thinks. Who's the broad in the photo? And is there a shot further to the right or over the guy's shoulders?
