Murph thinks he's a baseball coach because he took a 10 year old all star team to finish 4th. Singles become triples and fly balls are being dropped everywhere, it's almost unwatchable at that age.
I've listened to the KNBR morning show for over a decade, not for the hosts, but for the sometimes great guests. I have to 100% agree that Murphy wins the title for being the Bay Area's biggest disingenuous kiss ass. He's a schmuck with little talent. They should've gotten rid of him instead of Mac.
Definitely a pretentious, arrogant name-dropper. Used to listen to him (and Pauly Mac) in the AM but stopped as I couldn't stand him anymore. Sadly, KNBR is only a shell of what it once was.
My guess is you won't publish this but I'll send this anyways.
You've never been shy about your dislike of Brian Murphy, or nearly anything related to KNBR. And that's of course perfectly fine, everyone is entitled to an opinion. But unless you've had some awful personal experience with him that you haven't shared, your level of vitriol towards him is a bit odd.
He's a shill you say, particularly mentioning Larry Baer and the Giants. Have you listened to him the previous couple of seasons? He has been very critical of the Giants. It seems like an easy swing to say he's a kiss-a**, and sure, at times he has to go along with things because of his employer (like pretty much any employee), but I don't hear evidence of him being a kiss-ass overall.
You say he doesn't know anything and poses stupid questions. Can you give any examples? He doesn't know everything, but I don't typically hear many ignorant questions. I certainly don't hear anything that makes him sound less informed than any other sports talk personality.
I have no idea if he's a jerk in real life. Does he sometimes have to taper his feelings or appear more positive about some things on-air? Of course he does - like virtually everyone in radio. Do you think we get the "real" personality of everyone we hear or see in media? Of course not. Some are a*holes off-mic or off-cam but keep it in check while doing their job. Which isn't much different than even a corporate job. People put on their best persona when they are being evaluated by others. I do know he has commented quite a few times that he has a bad temper, so it's not like he's trying to hide it.
Yes, he does ads. Likely many people in radio do. Why is it an issue if he does it? People do this to make money. This isn't a big revelation or anything that makes Brian Murphy a bad guy.
There are some things about him on-air that I'm not crazy about. He does show his short fuse with others at times. He definitely seems to have pumped up the fake anger and yelling at things since he was paired with Boucher (who has improved a TON since he started), which I'm guessing was something he's been encouraged to do by upper management to try to reach a younger audience.
So ya, he's not perfect, but the guy has been a fixture on Bay Area morning radio for what, 20 years? That's not easy to do in such a fickle business. Clearly he's connected with many listeners over the years and has done something right.
Ah, Yes! Brian Murphy. Known by his real moniker...Bowel Movement. Pretentious asshole with a punch-able face.

ReplyDeleteI thought Murphy was just and extension of larry Baer
DeleteHe blocked me on Twitter way back when because I commented on his weird man crush on Tim Lincecum, must have touched a nerve! He's a jerk.
