KPIX Major Anchor Alteration; Bastida and De La Cruz 'Almost Assuredly' Gone in Fall

Ken Bastida – CBS San Francisco
Ken Bastida

KPIX is about to lose at least two of its major anchors, 415 Media has learned ...veteran and Bay Area native, Ken Bastida is supposedly headed out the door come this fall. Bastida is thirty-plus years at PIX and has a $500K a year salary. That may have been the impetus to his gone-Jessie status in the fall. An industry source told me that he is "almost assuredly" OTD come September.

*Veronica De La Cruz, who arrived from NY with much fanfare just a few years back, (2014) is also said to be on the "bye-bye" list.

KPIX is losing money. Every station is. The ad meter is non-existent, thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic. Everyone else is on the same gruesome path, only CBS owns KPIX so the bleeding is not as dangerous.

That said, the coming cut affair at 855 Battery may be just the beginning ...we'll wait and see.

    2. I’ll post positives as pseudo-Rich. Ronn O, Gary R and Larry B are all fabulous talents that deserved all the money they earned in their careers.

    3. Griego's resignation next then it would be a clean sweep of happy news. We want all Kenny Choi all the time!

  2. Bastida has been phoning it in the past several years. Best wishes to him for a happy and productive retirement. He appears to be ready for it.

    1. A short while ago (pre-Covid) KPIX did a story about how workers fearing ageism in the Bay Area were resorting to things like dyeing their hair to look younger. Prior to that story (I forget the reporter who did it), Bastida had read several on camera pieces where he made some embarrassing mistakes, things any Journalism 101 student shouldn't do. When the ageism piece ended he came back on and chuckled about how silly the whole concern of looking young is. "What matters is what you've got here," he said, pointing to his noggin. Oh, God, I laughed so hard. It reminded me of when Donald Trump fires off typo-ridden juvenile tweets about what stable genius he really is. I'm sure Ken has no idea how he really comes across.

    2. If there's a room of dim bulbs, they still easily outshine KB. Blown bulbs, even.

  3. At PIX, Madam VDLC rarely entered the door.

    1. I don't know why they paid so much money, and made so many accommodations, for Miss Saigon. You can go to the local community college and get the same thing for beans wages. Someone in charge of making the final decision had a big hard-on is all I can think of. How PIX chooses most of its "talent" boggles my mind, especially when they have a great bench of talent already sitting on its hands. If you put a thousand idiots in front of a thousand typewriters, they would eventually type out the KPIX staffing roster.

    3. VDLC already seems to be gone. Can anybody indicate when the last time she was on the air? Best wishes to her, whatever's going on.

  4. I'm certain (pre-Covid) that I saw Madam VDLC working at Costco in Danville handing out the free food samples in aisle 12.

    1. I'll be darned! I too was at Costco pre SIP. San Jose location. Pretty sure I saw Maria Medina handing out samples. Good side gig for her.

    2. Given her increasingly bloated girth, are you sure she wasn't eating all of the food samples in aisle 12?

    3. Diva La Cruz had a job where she actually showed up for work?

    4. $1.50 jumbo pizza slices from Costco (employee discount) is the last thing VDLC and Maria Medina need if you know what I mean.

  5. VDLC is indeed pregnant on the picture, does not look like body fat or eating too much. If she shows up 6 months later without the tummy, the same old trap from NY in result of a child with daddy running away as previously reported about her before coming to SF.

VDLC should be the one let go long time ago.

She never shows up on breaking news like Asiana, Oakland Warehouse fire

She always uses baby-sitting as an excuse not showing up for work
Too many personal issues like mommy is sick and dying, concussion, her son dog bite, her son, traveling and in search for love and the same old trap.

If it wasn't SF, she would have been let go long time ago, one word "FIRED".

I strongly recommend Maria Medina as her replacement and please, no Michelle on the evening news.

    1. Maria Medina??? Good god, stone face, zero personalty. Maybe teach her to smile??

    2. They said the same about Claudine Wong over at KTVU. She started smiling more and showing personality and to be honest, made her worse.

    3. Medina's way too hoochie. Every time I see her I want to shout "You go, girlfriend!" She belongs on The Talk or TMZ.

  7. Reminds me of the Seinfeld where kramer gets fired. Kramer: "I dont even work here", Boss: "That's what makes this so difficult".

I'm glad VDLC is leaving! Can't stand her drama queen, look at me center of attention diva attitude. Who watched her cable 12 Nightbeat except tweakers and insomniacs?
