The TV News Execs in SF Would Have Loved a Candlestick Park Implosion; Despite Staff Migration To LA Things Are Cool at NBC Bay Area; Karel Launches an F-Bomb on KGO Radio, (Audio); Bloomquist and Bakos Shack it Up; Christina Loren: Beauty and Brains; Morning Round-Up

I'll BET YOU a lox and cream cheese omelet that if the TV News honchos in the Bay Area had their way, they'd have imploded Candlestick Park--a truly made-for-TV news event that would have been a sight for sore eyes. Instead we're getting piece-by-piece demolishment of the old dump out near the bay. There's nothing wrong to point out the news execs wanting the explosion. Having covered a number of events at the old pigsty and experiencing parking hell and wind, I say blow that mutha up!

*You might think with all the reporter/staffer migration from NBC Bay Area to KNBC would be cause for concern at the Southbay O and O--NOT the case. In fact, a leading air talent who knows where all the bodies are buried tells me that things couldn't be more tranquil. "The ratings are good, people are happy and Jonathan (Mitchell) ND, runs a good shop. He doesn't get in the way." Yeah, common sense, the KISS approach does wonders.

*Nobody faults running commercials on terrestrial radio--that's how they pay the bills on free radio. It's the INUNDATION, the DELUGE of spots that take up 37 minutes, (not including updates) that has people irate. Or in the book of logic: good, old-fashioned greed.

*On the clock: the Tori Campbell contract watch at KTVU

*On the clock, Part 2: the Ronn Owens contract watch at KGO/Cumulus.

*More talk, less news (lately) KCBS Morning News tonsils, Stan Bunger and Susan Leigh Taylor which isn't necessarily bad, just a noticeable break in tradition.

*Don't get all fussy over Christina Loren, the morning weather woman at NBC Bay Area because she's well-equipped. At least she has brains to boot as opposed to the chick one station away who doesn't have a clue. What a yenta.

*The high prince formerly of KGO Radio/Cumulus, Randall Bloomquist and the high priestess herself, Renee Bakos, are supposedly living together. Great. Two more future admissions to "Fifty Shades of Grey." Oh, the pain.

*Roberta Gonzalez: I know you hate the mornings and have to get up at 2 but your persona were meant for mornings, seriously Robbie. The high energy and octave woke me up recently literally out of a deep sleep. Me, you, Rosenheim and a couple of highballs at Old Ship, I'll buy. Do they take bitcoin?

*Doug Sovern: best reporter on KCBS. Duh!

*When Michael Savage tells a story about Teddy and meatball recipes, sorry, I'm hooked. The politics and the screaming, OK, not so much but those of you aghast that I should write positively about Savage's brilliant story-telling, take a hike. Go eat some kale or listen to Kate Scott.

*Randy Hahn: future mayor or San Jose. He'd win by a landslide.

*Smiles more: Claudine Wong.
  Smiles less: Dave Clark.

*Karel launched another F-Bomb on Sunday night on KGO Radio --(Here's the audio--listen at 21: 06) for the "fucking movie" utterance. Apparently, the FCC has been informed. Again.

Let's add "on the clock" for the Brian Sussman contract watch at KSFO/Cumulus.

  2. Hey Rich,

I saw Christina Loren wearing a big rock, any clue who the lucky guy is?

Yet other NDs and managers won't emulate this common sense approach. They're more interested in power and self-aggrandizement than in doing good work.

  4. Loren got married a while ago...where have you been? I just wish she could leave her hair alone for five seconds....but alas that appears to be beyond her capabilities.

  5. YAY! Someone notifies the FCC about that F Bomb, maybe KGO will finally send that yutz back to his make believe red carpet life permanently. Here's hoping...

  6. The Cume-less virus is spreading. Sister WLS in Chicago is replacing a Sunday night talk show with infomercials; starts in two weeks.

  7. I saw what looked like a dirty and a little faded Chrysler 300 in Pleasanton. Then,as it made a left turn at the lights and passed in front of me,I could see it was instead a Bentley.
    True story .

    1. Yeah, is this supposed to be interesting?

    2. This is interesting because the Bloated One years ago belly ached that Chrysler had made a car that tried to imitate the "Bentley look".

  8. Re: The FCC and the 'F-Bomb'.......Good luck. I filed on the F-Bomb aired by Drex when he ran the O'Reilly tape. The FCC opened and closed the file in under 48 hours. No action, no further communication needed.

    1. I second that...good luck. I filed when Karel made comments about "sending people to the ovens" & got the same thing. It went nowhere. I tried calling him on it via email, but he said "I took it out of context". Slimy Bastard.

  9. Everyone wanted Candlestick blown up (some for as long as 40 years ago), a vocal group of Hunters Point residents are the ones who insist on the piece by piece demolition.

    1. Would you want to breath all the dust from an explosion? I wouldn't. I support the residents' stance. I wouldn't want to damage my lungs either.

  10. I loved going to Candlestick. Don't understand the hate.

  11. Listened to the tape and Karel clearly says "frickin"... unless KGO edited it out.

  12. And lets get it out in the open. Radnich did NOT decided to go to Arizona "and while there interview Giant players" He's going because of my observations on this here 415 blog that he gave KRON squat in the NLCS and the World Series Championship. The Western Division president of KRON met with Radnich..and he admitted SHE told HIM to do reports, not JR Stone who she pays minimum wage- not an exact quote.
And let's face it. Radnich stole the money in 2010 and 2012,as I don't think he did any clubhouse interviews for KRON those years.
    Once again,Stan gets it right,first.

    1. You should legally change your name to Rasputin since you have so much influence over Radnich's career.

    2. Yes,it can be a burden sometimes. Christina Loren never wears the Sapphire dress with gold..uh,"decorations". If I could turn back the clock...

In the bay area? Did Randall Bloomquist vacate his home in Atlanta voluntarily or was he "asked to resign"?

  14. An implosion would have been a grand exit for the old yard, and a big story on a national level as well. It would have been huge on YouTube. Too many great players, games, announcers, and teams blew in and out of there (pardon the pun), and the unique nature of the place provided a source for some interesting tales. Blowing up The 'Stick probably would have gotten pretty good international media exposure, especially given its place in history relative to the Beatles.

    2. You should've bought a house near Candlestick and cheered the demolition while breathing in all that filthy junk into your lungs!

    3. 8:21,

An implosion would have been a big story and a spectacular "show," but I do support communities in their efforts to keep exposure to toxins/health hazards to a minimum. Ironically, this particular community is still having problems with dust related issues caused by the current demolition project.

  16. After many years of refusing to listen to Mike Savage, because he was so relentlessly negative, I was sort of forced to give him a try, mostly because so much good radio has already been weeded out and trimmed back. I still don't listen to him daily, but a few times a week. I listened two days ago when Mike read a make believe screen play. As Mike narrated his story, there was music in the background, silent movie type music, with a player piano, bass, a clarinet along with a violin suite. The music crackled and wafted as one would expect from a recording so old it could have been performed in a Speak-Easy drinking bar. The total effect was exquisite and quite charming. Thank you Mr. Weiner. Nobody else would do that, or if they did, it would be overdone to the point of parody.

  17. Cumulus cannot say they weren't warned about Randall Bloomquist, his history of sleeping with the help was as well known as his pathetic track record as a program director.
