Henry Tenenbaum is officially leaving the KRON Garden

Do you care that Henry Tenenbaum is officially out at 1001 Van Ness? I do. I mean, what the heck will Ess Eff do without him? Gardening folks are in mourning.

Anyway, as reported here first, HT is taking a hike from good old KRON and will concentrate on making speeches, teaching, and delve into his passion for photography.

That's a second hit for the albatross station in recent weeks. First, Vern Glenn and now Hank. Who's next? They've been doing a lot of down-sizing over there near the Tommy's Joynt corridor.

Call me a wacky one--in the early days of civilization when local TV here was semi-normal, I actually enjoyed his Henry-ness on interviews and entertainment items. He was an acquired taste; sort of like KRON in the middle of an infomercial cluster. Besides, anyone was better than hatwoman.

We wish the Hankster the best.

  1. That had to be the worst shows I have ever seen. Total Bore

  2. I've always liked Henry, and felt he's been underutilized in recent years. Having said that, my initial introduction to him was to be disappointed when he became host of Discovery Channel's Australian import, "Beyond 2000" way back when. The Australian hosts were part of the charm of the show, and after a few years they suddenly edit in Henry to introduce the segments (WTF... Australian accents were to hard for Americans to understand??). But good luck to Henry, hope we see him on the tube from time to time. And the economy needs him...those self-expanding mattresses, fake lawns, and kitchen appliances don't sell themselves!

    1. Why couldn't Navlet's support the show? Is Buzz B. available any longer?

  3. News Years Eve - Teatro Zinzanni - classic local TV....his face smashed into the large bussoms.....

  5. There's something in the air..I can feel it,but I cant say exactly what it is..but things are changing. When the Bee-Gee's and Donna Summer leave and now the people of the 80'- 90's are being let go...its like the 20 century is being erased. It took awhile. But those days are now coming so fast...

    1. There's definitely a changing of the guard in local television. Look around. There are more and more talent on the air that were in high school in the 90's. Sad to say but things like this happen; and it's happening now.

  6. Dude, you kind of look like Jan Wahl. Why so hateful?

  7. The problem is if you work as KRON in any on air fashion your career is DONE. Pretty much the same for behind the scenes too... When you appear on a program that includes paid "fake" news segments no one will ever take you seriously again nor should they. KRON thinks they're getting away with it but they're not.

  9. One thing to KRON's credit over the years, they seemed more open to quirky types rather than the cookie cutter looks favored at other stations. Mark Thompson, Wayne Shannon, Karl Sonkin, Gary Radnich...

  13. Always good for the butt of a joke, Henry seems like a decent sort of guy and added a little flavor from the typical TV types most networks look for. Good luck, Henry.

However, if KRON wants to do a "Gardening with Darya and Justine during hot hot weather" segment, I'm sure ratings will be up!

  14. I wish Henry well. Ask him and I bet he will tell you doing "Bay Area Bargains" and weekend fluff segments was not the way he would want to be remembered. All the KRONvicts are much happier now, out of the choke-hold of 1001 Van Ness. I'm sure he will be too.

  16. I'm so happy to see that joker go. He's a total embarrassment (even for KRON). Now only if the hatlady would get her permanent walking papers. (KRON got rid of her once already, but she inexpectedly returned). Sigh.

  17. Changing of the guard at KRON... tense behind the scenes at KRON with Vern leaving, Henry T and John Collins taking off, and some longtime faces being cut. This ain't your mother's KRON anymore. Eggshells must be all over the floor at 1001 Van Ness.

  18. Not to be rude to Henry, but I'd wager plenty of garden folks are not in mourning. That whole show ran like a Navlet's ad, and I can't tell you how often I would hear the wrong info coming across the air. It would piss me off so much that I quit listening. I wish him well though!

  24. Henry was the perfect host for us imperfect gardeners who needed his combination of wackiness and brilliance to guide us through our garden planning. I'll miss Henry's unique sense of humor.

  25. I worked with Henry for two or three years as an intern for Henry's Garden and Saturday morning news. He is an AWESOME person. Totally professional, easy to talk to, willing to share any help, kind, very intelligent, great wife and kids. The man is a very good man. I hate what KRON did to him. They totally fucked him over….and many others. I wish only the best for Henry.

  26. I watched KRON and Henry for years. Loved his gardening segment with Buzz as there was always something to learn. I moved away for 3 years. Moved back in November and my husband and I were just saying "where's Henry been?" So I grabbed my computer and found this post. Very sad to hear KRON did him wrong. I understand downsizing. But I'm hearing KRON screwed him over (to put it nicely). That it a hit against KRON in my book. For what it's worth (which is probably nothing). Henry if you are reading this, there ARE people who miss you and what you contributed to KRON.
